Anyone use a 6.5mm (Grendel or otherwise) in a TC Encore?

I talked with MGM Friday about a Grendel Contender. They have decided to offer it for the G2 and Contender frames as well now. Now my question is in a 15" barrel should I get a 1in8" or 1in9" twist?

I have MGM Encore. 24" barrel. 1:9 twist. It stabalises 120-125gr bullets well but >129gr SST bullets aren't as accurate. I would go with 1:8 if your going to use the long ones.

For a 15" barrel, I would also lean on 1/8 twist, maybe even 1/7.75 or 1/7.5 if you can.

No offense to the grendel, but if I weren't confined by a magazine, I would do it in 260. I have an encore in 7mm08 that I bought before the 260 was around, and it doesn't kick bad with 140's, I think a 260 with a 120, 129, or even 140's would be even better.

I admit that a 260 might be better, but one I want a Grendel, and two on the Contender/G2 frame you could not do a 260 because of head thrust and pressure issues. And if I had an Encore I would just build another 6.5-284. I like the Grendel just fine and for a pistol I think the 260 would not have any advantage over the Grendel.

When I talked to Missy Friday she said they only had 1in8" or 1in9" twists. I will go with the 1in8" when I call her back. She told me that it should only be 5 to 6 weeks if I order after Christmas. The other thing she told me when I asked is that they mostly use Green Mountain barrels. Now I have never had an issue with GM barrels on any of my BPCR guns or my muzzle loaders so I hope it all turns out good.

I have a Burris 2-7 pistol scope with the graduations on lower staff. It is on my .223 T/C right now, but I have an older Nikon I am going to move to that one.
