I really like the 3-15 or 3-18 power range and prefer FFP. This is what I have now. If I could stay 30mm to avoid buying a new mount that's a plus.

you'll have to figure it out if trying to do 2-3 jobs with one scope and what is most important to you, if hitting critters in the guts or missing is least important then carry on, preferably you have one tool for each job, hunting and target shooting to 700 yards are more than different enough to have two different tools
ie; even the bulk of prc shooters hunting limits are 600 yards, and those in the scene will admit that on game most proficiency starts to die off around 450 yards and the moderate few can still kill reliably to 600 but its very very few who can reliably kill past 600 so they do the same thing, take their target rigs hunting but still kill within ranges a 3-9x40 scope regular 7 lb hunting rifle will kill with simple elevation/wind solutions, be a turret or reticle, and most won't shoot at game past 20" of wind either, even if they don't know that limit in inches, their mils or moa holds etc. will equate to that, there are natural limits that keep hunting a very different beast, so you can either set up for that...or adapt the range gear to it best you can but it will catch you out, just as you learned very quickly
so my recommendation is get your list of limits for 'hunting' written down, real, practical, then either set your rig up to that, or get a second rifle set up for hunting, when you drag way too much noise out there it will catch you out, and Murphy has a tendency to do it on an animal of a lifetime, the more simple, bombproof you can set up for within your practical hunting limits the less likely you'll have to meet Murphy out there
hearing most ffp scopes don't have reticles that lend well to hunting as too fine on lower mags, and guys set up with 100 yard zeros instead of mpbr, it's quite amazing really how we will step away from k.i.s.s. and most effective gear for the latest trend in shooting sports, it's a learning curve, not trying to tell you what to do but rather just think it through, all the info is available, those 450-600 yard TOF's are half to 3/4 seconds, the archery hunters have limits that fall in those same TOF's 50-70 yards btw, so there are natural limits, and 1/4 moa does nothing for you afield, 1.5 moa will get you to those distances as most can't extract any better from actual field shooting on game, and wind well..know that our brains are wired visually and spatially, so typically after the first wind hold on a reticle .3 mil or whatever...if you miss poa then you tend to ignore the reticle from that point on and brain takes over and almost corrects automatically...why not start out that way? I tried that but went back to plain reticle and hold inches, that won't be the ticket for prs, but it sure is for shtf hunting as you revert to a spatial/visual on target reference hold anyway, you don't get to 'measure' with the reticle your miss on game, targets you bet, but targets don't start leaving when the lead flies, do what makes you a better shooter but there is a way better way to set up for 'hunting', most guys who play in the long target world should have two different rifles, some do, some are adamant these differences and you'll have a guy with a nice custom 303 single he's deadly with to 400 for hunting but competes with all sorts of long bomber gear in f-class, prs or whatever, not enough people are talking about this
we have little ruger ranch grendel with trijicon accupoint 3-9x40 the kids shoot well, Kenton spun up a speed dial turret to match middle of our conditions, kids and I have dialled up deer at 300, 355 and 420 no problem, dropped them all, return it back to zero and put the dust cap back on, windage you don't adjust ever, dust cap always stays on, tough to mess that system up, I just build another with a 6x36 fixed leupold with a cds-zl turret, again, tough to mess that up, I would use a mil-dot trijicon if return to zero was an issue etc. as there are enough holds to get me out past 500 easy and gapping isn't hard, did that with archery fixed pin sights a long time, also shot a leupold lr-duplex well to about 575 yards also, all real world hunting set ups, and before the cds-zl type turrets came along I ran a standard 7/8" target knob with dust cap for my leupold scopes, I added them to everything through the custom shop, then Kenton speed dial turrets to match what I wanted, shot very accurately out to 930 yards in testing, called out by buddy at 701 and nailed the rock dead center while he spined it with his F-class 300wm with 28" barrel and easily 10 lbs etc. I shot a factory tikka t3 lite .270 with fusion ammo and leupold 3-9x33 ultralight with that 7/8" target turret, you range, dial, hold your wind and shoot, very quickly, that is hunting, leave the computers at home for hunting, you can it all set up before the season starts so you can focus on hunting and not the inappropriate gear and methods you may have over trained on before hand when you could have been training on coyotes all year instead as you'll learn very quickly hunting coyotes what you can and can't do on deer etc. and what your distance limits really are, while guys overtrained the wrong stuff all winter, I was hunting coyotes all winter, longest is 620, don't talk to many who have one over 400 let alone 500, so hopefully food for though, your shot was 120 yards, that windage error would have cost you a clean miss at 320, and if I bought a leupold mk4 or whatever that had a windage turret...I would send that back to custom shot to have it replaced to low profile capped, but I only care about hunting, range work is simply to set my rifles up for hunting, then I hunt
