Looks like Kosh65 was closest, with LeveRevolution temperature does make a difference.

Best guess 123gr ELDM - 30.1gr LVR

Let's go Brandon!

That's fair. I have a bit of xbr I'll try after this test with lvr, but I doubt I'll approach the same speeds. Maybe just go crazy and load up some 85s to watch my gun not cycle bur the chrono blast past 3k.

I tried 31.7 of LVR with 123 SMK. Wasnt too hot for my bolt gun, but was a little too compressed for my comfort. I decided to stick with 31.5 for a max. That resulted in slightly 2657fps (if I remember correctly?) from my 24 tube
Comparing 31 to 31.8 when bullet seating, at 31.8 I had to dial in .002 to maintain a consistent cbto. Haven't shot them yet but I suppose it's worth checking to see if they grew at all sitting in a box. I didn't crimp this time because expectation is i might have to stop shooting and pull bullets and id rather do that without the taper crimp.
@Kosh65 - what temperature? I am seeing this is quickly becoming the most relevant variable regarding lvr once past 31gr. I loaded up 10 of each charge so I can take 5 at 50F in the morning and 5 at 75-80f in the afternoon to get some sense of temp scaling but need to shoot still. The results of temp scaling may be why major manufacturers don't list this powder as suitable.
From the data Ive seen CFE223 and LeveRevolution have very similar burn rates in the 6.5 Grendel and probably similar in the 6 ARC. A forum member conducted a test for temperature sensitivity for CFE223 powder. I think this thread might be worth reading.
Powder Temperature Test https://www.65grendel.com/forum/showthre...ature-Test A forum member recently tested temperature sensitivity recently with CFE223 or Leverevolution but I couldnt find the thread. The topic has frequently come up on this forum and is one reason IMR8208XBR H4895 and AR Comp are popular powders since they seem to be more temperature stable powders. This is one of the few charts Ive ever seen on temperature stability with different powders.
I dont recall exactly? But fairly certain it would have been between 50-70 Fahrenheit.
Be sure that you are giving time for your chamber to cool between the different charge weights so that youre getting best possible velocity readings and possible early signs of pressure.

Here's a post of mine from another thread. The subject comes up so much I should re-do this test in 10 degree increments. Shot from a 22" barrel.

I worked the load up in the mid 80's to low 90's degree range. At the mid 30 to low 40's temp range it averaged out too 1.27 fps lost per 1 degree of air temp. I know I had posted a thread on here detailing some of the load work up but not sure if I ever posted my findings when I tested the velocity change do too temp stability. A5.

Settled with 31.3gr of LVR.
Speed isn't quite at the target 2750 BUT the accuracy makes up for it. Can throw a 10 shot group at .75,MOA and a 9 shot group before I botch #10 at just a hair under .5MOA Prone, no rear bag. I'm simulating match position as much as I can. Ambient temp was around 58-60 per my car. I kind of suspect that the ammo gets colder than ambient temp sitting on a shaded cement pad. I need to bring an infrared thermometer.... ![]() ![]() ![]() I have 27-28.2gr in .3 increments of 8208xbr loaded for tomorrow's session. Same cbto, same 123 eldm. Anything above 2600fps without over pressure would be acceptable to me. Will keep running over magnetospeed, 10x rds each, 5 groups. I feel like a 10 round group will better represent actual group size, and will give me more accurate sd/es off the chrono.

The dreaded #10, lol. Nice grouping and impressive velocities.

You have to be happy with that. Nice shooting.

Phone died on way to range so no way to snap pics of groups.
1st and last charge were of any interest really, especially 28.2gr. I think it might be a touch hot though. Getting the faintest of ejector swipes on 2-3 pieces that weren't present in any other loads. I do see the same marks more often trying hornady black or ppu so ??? I'll just stop here and call it. Best to tune the cbto now to dial in the group. Here is the chrono data for 28.2... I forgot to hit the button for the next series and got 9 recorded out of the 10. One thing of note, I have been annealing before resizing lately... every firing. Getting super consistent .002 shpulder bump every time, and it just feels good. Hard to describe the feeling, but im beginning to believe that it's better to anneal before resizing rather than after. Seeing the slightest indication that sd got a touch better. Like 2-3fps tighter.

I know its been bear to death on here but I anneal before sizing to me it makes more sense.
The 28.2 is looking good. Loaded up 50 last night, practice was today. Ran over magnetospeed for a bit to get confident in what I'm trying to calculate.
Took out to the rams at 550, walk in the park. Started shooting at tennis balls @ 385 with far less success (but still successful enough. I could really use a foam insert for my sun shade to reduce aperture and thus mirage) ![]() This will probably be the competition load. It had enough oompf to knock over rams with a decently placed ass shot, accuracy was on point, velocity was good throughout the 25F swing it went through. I am expecting a bolt failure eventually, but a spare is in my range kit. This is almost certainly a little over pressure based on the appearance of faint ejector swipes. No other "traditional" signs are present but that doesn't mean much. If I can get norma 202 playing nice with the 135s..... man I will be a happy camper to have a backup projectile and powder. This will be my next work up. |
