123 sst vs 123 eldm

How is the Ogive on the sst bullets? With the 123 eldm I am around .050-.060” from the lands and mag is the restriction.

Haven’t played with these aside from a box of factory ammo.

If you're shooting paper, the ELD is better. If you're hunting, SST.

I think in the 123grainers the eld-m and the sst's are identical other than the band crimped around the sst to hold it together a bit longer.

The eld-m's have always been more accurate for me FWIW

I have the same thoughts as "nuthead". The SST isn't as accurate in my AR or bolt gun as the ELD-M in 123 grain. But.as a hunting bullet, it doesn't necessarily have to be.

I’ve used both bullets for target practice.The ballistic coefficient is close SST .485. ELD .505. Both bullets are equally accurate in my barrels.Both take different loads.Both like a 1 mm jump ,which is .040 inches. Only difference is the super shock tip, which is made for expansion for hunting.

Thank you. That’s what I was looking for. I have had so so accuracy with the Eldm. Probably 1-1/4-1-1/2 groups on average and I wondered if they had a different profile.

With my chamber and AR mag, I can’t get very close to the lands with eldm, so it may not benefit for me to try the SST, although it would be a good hunting option and my accuracy would be acceptable for a hunting situation.

What is your COL?
Between 2.250”-2.260” is what I seat to. Fits in ASC mags.And very accurate.

I load 123 SST's like FLshooter(2.250-2.255). I use the "base to ogive" measurement since the oal varies a few thousandths.
When I measure with the SST, I get 2.262-2.265, so I'm loading .010" off the lands. Apparently my chamber is on the short side of the saami spec, but, it shoots whatever I feed it, even the Wolf steel shoots pretty good. I just loaded some ELD's to try. Don't have much info on them yet. I only shoot hogs and sometimes other varmints, so I don't 'have' to have sub moa accuracy, but I get it with my loads. Just passing on info, no brag. Good luck

The ogives are different. I know I measured the bto on them but cant remember the difference off the top of my head. But I load my sst’s to a shorter coal.

SST has a different jacket material, cannelure, and mechanical lock in the base, plus a softer polymer tip.

Thank you. I was mainly interested in the bullet profile. If it were the same as the eldm it would not be worth me trying to load them.

I was hoping it was more of a tangent Ogive similar to the 120 eldm, which I am able to load long enough to get close to the lands.
