I was looking for some prefit barrel , but I was sold after what my Smith has told me about prefit installation vs blank fit each reciever . That why I will get the best accuracy . I guess profit methods wouldn't hurt either if purpose was to save some money .

I've re-barreled all four of the Howa Mini actions I own. From 20 Tactical to 22 Grendel to 6RAT to 6.5 Grendel, using Bartlein bbls. The heaviest was a 6mm light Palma for the RAT, while the other three were all lighter sporter contour barrels that fit my needs that I found on Bartlein's online inventory list. Last one was a 6.5/1-8tw in Rem mag sporter that had a shank too short to hold in a 4-jaw chuck, and would've had to be machined between centers, which I've never done, and have no desire to do. I turned the shank down to 1.090" to fit a Mini action, which resulted in it having plenty of length to allow me to thread & chamber the bbl in the headstock. Ordered a 6.5 Grendel reamer from PTG that was supposed to be ground for a bolt gun as opposed to the SAAMI spec reamer ground for use in semi-auto rifles. Since they didn't send a reamer print with it, I'm still not sure what I got, but that Bartlein bbl is shooting very well out to 600yds with the bbl'd action skim-bedded into a B&C #1003 stock. Haven't spent much time with the rifle, but have found that a load with IMR8208, CCI450, & Lapua 123gr Scenar shoots much better than the single load I tried with CFE223 & the same bullet. I finished the Rem mag sporter at 24", which left the muzzle dia under the minimum dia that TBAC recommends for use with 5/8-24 threads, so ordered in a 9/16-24 flash suppressor/suppressor mount from them for use with an Ultra 7 can, and have been very pleased with the way the rifle shoots.

Don?t let anyone bs you, pre-fit barrels can shoot every bit as well as a custom installation from a smith...all boils down to who does the chamber. That preferred barrel site is MGM, who does the contender and encore bbls...they do good work and have an excellent reputation.

This is why I figure out what I want and how I want it before I ever talk too the shop are Smith I want to do the work.

If you walk in a shop the Smith is going to try to sell you on what he likes are what he gets a better profit on if he sells it to you.

I really doubt that you're going to see much - if any - benefit from going with the tighter 1-7.5tw with bullets no heavier than 123grs. I've used 1-8.5tw bbls on several of my custom rifles chambered for larger rounds such as 6.5-08 Improved, 6.5x55, 6.5x55AI, and 6.5x284, which were all used out to 1000-1400yds, with 140gr bullets from various makers, including VLD & Hybrids from Berger, and never had an accuracy issue. Just remember, the faster you spin a bullet, the more critical the quality of said bullet becomes. That's the main reason point blank BR shooters using the 6PPC go with 1-14tw bbls - granted, they're shooting custom made 68gr bullets at 100-300yds, and there's no need for a tighter twist. But even with best-quality custom bullets, they stay away from over-spinning them to minimize the effects of even barely measurable variations in jacket thickness.

Call Paul @ Craddock. He uses Bartlein.
I just got a Craddock 24? Bartlien heavy barrel for my 6.5 Grendel build. It shoots clover leafs w/123g Hornady ELDM And H335 powder. No lengthy break in either.Shot great after a 5 rd sight in.First Bartlein Barrel I?ve owned and I am impressed. Will definitely use a Bartlein for my next LR build.

That's the thing I shoot everything. And will be doing up a load with the 153 A-tip as well.

Decided my howa barrel has plenty of life leavt so I'm just going to do it up on a ar grendel when the newfrontierarmory six8 sized reciver sets come out.

That way I can take advantage of the 2.350 load length I can get away with in a 5 round modifiyed mag.

Going to get Mark at PF to do the barrel for me when I'm ready.

I?ve used all the WI cut rifled barrel makers products and they?re ALL excellent.... I use Brux more than others as they?re closer and I enjoy stopping by to chat and they usually have what I need laying in their ?extras? pile.

Interested to see how the 153s work. Berger says that their 156 needs a minimum of an 8 twist. A friend of mine is shooting them out of a 6.5 BR, and he's getting about 2500 (ish) fps and they seem to stabilize out of his 8 twist.

The 153 atip won't be on the loading block till after deer season is over. And the first gun I test it in will be my 16 inch ar grendel then I will test it out the 24 inch barrel.

With the extra load length my mags allow and the seating depth my 16 inch allows with that bullet. I think I can get it going 2300 fps.
