The Standard has plain sides, the Mod 1 has cut outs on the sides. This reduces weight by about half oz. Not much a weight savings, more of comestic difference. Otherwise they are identical.

The mod 1 appears to have additional machining to reduce weight, not 100% on that though.

I am fairly certain, at least at this point, I will be going with the "original" of the two. I gave the vltor upper some consideration, but PF has won my money.

Locktite (242 blue)?
1/2" drive torque wrench? Barrel nut wrench w/ 1/2" drive? Action Block? 8" bench vise?

Locktite red to bed the barrel for me. Look into grease for the threads.
I use a 1/2 inch breaker bar to loosen as it is reported torque wrench should only be used for tightening. I've used the tighten to 35fp, loosen three times then tighten till alignment is achieved going up a few fps at a time on the torque wrench with good success. My goal is to take small steps (sometimes many) to avoid passing barrel nut and upper gas tube hole alignment. I always want to stop after tightening rather than having to go back.

Bench vise is still on my shopping list. I have been eyeballing the more expensive of the Wheeler tool kits. Think that will get me nearly every tool I will need. I had forgotten about locktite, adding that to my list.

Mecharius- don't forget about checking the receiver to barrel mounting face to see if it's true- a major accuracy "trick" you most likely won't have a problem with a PF upper, but it's worth checking.
