Looking for suggestions on a stripped upper - Mecharius - 10-21-2015 Initially I was planning on buying a DPMS upper, they are readily available and relatively inexpensive. But the more I think about it, the mode I convince myself to seek out quality. I am working on what is both my first Grendel build as well as my first AR build and am not sure what I should be looking for in a quality stripped upper receiver. I plan on this being my target rifle. http://riflebarrels.com/shop/65-grendel/6-5-grendel-ar24/ After several weeks of trying to make a decision, that is the barrel I chose. So, in the opinion of the members of this forum, what would be a good upper receiver for me to go with? Looking for suggestions on a stripped upper - Mecharius - 10-21-2015 I can get the CMMG MK4 Upper Receiver Assembly for $125. Not sure if that would be much a step up from the DPMS though. Looking for suggestions on a stripped upper - LRRPF52 - 10-21-2015 For a 24", I would go billet. Get a Seekins or Mega or PF billet receiver set, and don't look back. Looking for suggestions on a stripped upper - am4966 - 10-21-2015 Billet upper for target rifle imo.. Lower forged is fine imo, if it looks good mated to the up upper Looking for suggestions on a stripped upper - Mecharius - 10-21-2015 LRRPF52 Wrote:For a 24", I would go billet. Looking for suggestions on a stripped upper - Mecharius - 10-21-2015 Most likely going with the precision firearms billet upper Looking for suggestions on a stripped upper - Mecharius - 10-21-2015 https://secure.wf-api.com/www.precisionfirearms.com/m8/1%20PF%20Billet%20Upper%20Receiver--pf-billet-upper-receiver.html Thinking this one. Looking for suggestions on a stripped upper - Bwild97 - 10-21-2015 Don't discount the Vltor MUR1, it is a very good upper! Gives a superb fit to many lowers, something I cannot say about the spikes SAR3.

I won't be finalizing my decision until the end of the month. So I will see what else I can find written out this and the other I was looking at. Looking for suggestions on a stripped upper - jim_bob - 10-21-2015 A Precision Firearms upper will look nice and be true. Plus Mark can set you up with a matched billet set that'll be nice and tight for sure. Looking for suggestions on a stripped upper - am4966 - 10-21-2015 For my 18" build I'm going to use the Vltor MUR you can get it around 165.00, if I was going to go with another one I'd choose Seekins Precision, then Precision Firearms only due to a discount. PF has excellent machining and Mark is a class act! Looking for suggestions on a stripped upper - jim_bob - 10-21-2015 Vltor MUR uppers are on sale at JSE Surplus for $150 + shipping, they appear to include forward assist and ejection port door components. Other than having to sign for packages, they have been good to deal with. www.jsesurplus.com Looking for suggestions on a stripped upper - Mecharius - 10-21-2015 Making this a difficult decision. It is going to be hard to settle on one. Looking for suggestions on a stripped upper - Bwild97 - 10-21-2015 If your going to order a MUR1, why not order it from Mark? His price is a tad higher but myself, I would rather support someone who supports us! Just a thought. Looking for suggestions on a stripped upper - AZ. Old Guy - 10-21-2015 I really like my Sun Devil billet with the tension screw. Beefed up in all the right places. Looking for suggestions on a stripped upper - oldbarnowl - 10-22-2015 I use a side charged upper, very beefy, 7075 T6 billet.... http://www.rainierarms.com/cmt-tact-upur-3a-billet-upper-receiver-side-charger. I mated it to a Young Machine National Match BCG with side charger, very convenient at the range. http://youngmanufacturing.net/ym-national-match-bolt-carrier-group-w-right-side-charge-handle-complete-151.html Looking for suggestions on a stripped upper - Mecharius - 10-22-2015 Bwild97 Wrote:If your going to order a MUR1, why not order it from Mark? I wouldn't mind paying a little extra. But I still haven't settled on which receiver I will be going with Looking for suggestions on a stripped upper - Mecharius - 10-22-2015 oldbarnowl Wrote:I use a side charged upper, very beefy, 7075 T6 billet.... Personally, not a fan of the side charging. Looking for suggestions on a stripped upper - Mecharius - 10-22-2015 For the PF billet upper receivers, what is the difference between the standard and the mod 1? What am I missing here that raises the price by a few dollars? |
