i suppose3 a barrel will take a while to get? i say if a bolt and extractor will do the trick lets try that whatever you think...i still have to figure out a way to make JSE Surplus make this right with me, which i am sure they are going to tell me to pack sand and do nothing

1/2x28 TPI on a Grendel doesn't make a lot of sense, not does a .094" gas port. You can get away with a 1/2x28 TPI muzzle, but accuracy will suffer, and the chance of attaching a dangerous muzzle device with clearance only for .224" projectiles, not .264".
Do we know if the chamber is even a Grendel chamber? My money is on "no", 9999 to 10000 odds. This is one of the main reasons Bill A. demanded strict standards on those who wanted to make Grendel barrels/uppers/rifles.

I just checked their site and no Grendel barrels are listed in their barrel caliber categories. They did buy a bunch of AA lowers, probably when they were on sale, and have them for $99.
If the barrel was advertised to you as "6.5 Grendel" you need to ask for a refund, in my opinion. Heck, you should ask for a refund anyway if the thing is non-functional. I hate that people think it's cool to do this, then the cartridge gets a bad rap for something that isn't even legitimate.

but when Mr Alexander gets done and i see how bad the damage is, i plan i copying the link toi this thread and sending them a lengthy email to the owner who happens to live a block away from my house here and see ...i am sure nothing will come of it....i spent all my "hidden" cash on this stupid thing with them and was so excited to have something new that not many had and such an interesting caliber...but at this point im about aggravated......id almost sell the thing but cant in any good conscious since it doesnt work....the did build one for my brother with a barrel we provided and that thing is amazing....and remember we swapped his upper my lower my lower his upper and everything seemed to be okay that way....who the hell knows at this point....man the suck thats all i know
I think JSE has a great opportunity to make this right with the customer, and show that they care about customer satisfaction first. Then people can see their business philosophy in practice, and they would get more sales that way.
Or, they could choose to screw over you, the customer. You'll tell your friends about your experience, and they'll tell their friends. It's really an easy decision for a business.

i hope you're right about them wanting to help....but seeing how i took it to them three times and all they tried doing was filing crap and putting "bandaids" on it i doubt they'll budge and i suppose it was my decision to send it to another person to fix it so i'm sure theyll say its my dime not theirs.....i will for sure either praise and raise them up on here the forum and around town if they belly up and pay for what i'm about to have done or if it goes the other way well, there will be negative feedback on every gun forum the net has since they are 95% internet sales. we shall see, i hope it goes well, i really like the dude that runs the retail side of things Nick....he's a nice guy.

JSE are not manufacturers, the barrel in this thing says DSG on it. I think they got stuck with this thing and they simply sell what they buy. It is not their remit to examine the function, I would doubt they even knew it would not run. I find as we see more and more entries into the AR market that there are more occurrences of stuff that simply is not specified to known standards or tested.
Anyways. I have a barrel gathering dust that will work. The bolt looks good and the extractor can be adjusted. Barrel is an M4 type profile.
At present you will be in for a gas tube and the shop time.

man i don't know what to say other than thanks a hundred million! I understand what you are saying about them not knowing about the gun....but in my mind they should have someone on staff to handle any kind of problem something they sell should or could ever have.... instead they have a "sweat shop" of people slamming parts together and banging out lots of guns to sell over the US online and in shows....i get that. I just know where to go first for advice now and where to buy of course with Mr. Alexander! can't wait either way i suppose it's best left alone, I've never gotten any satisfaction out of reaming someone out or yelling hollering what-have-you....just learn a lesson and go on....well Mr A i say go on ahead and fix-er up and get my baby back to me! I received my reloading dies yesterday in the mail....cannot wait to start shooting it again! if you would go ahead and email me with a bill and i can get you a money order in the mail or call your office with a card number, either which way that suits you best is good for me.

I am not really sure about the direction of the industry at the moment.
Take the gun in question. The vendor would buy the parts from supposedly reputable sources. They then assemble and expect a known outcome. When the wheels fall off even the most knowledgeable staff would not be able to rectify the problem. So they go back to their source and get told there is nothing wrong. Nobody in the whole transaction has the ability to look at the item and say this is just a pile of crap. Even the source probably thinks it should work.
So how did this situation evolve to where it is now. Why should companies swallow the cost of R&D when they can make more cash bashing other peoples parts together. Is the customer driving the deterioration of the climate for gun designers vs manufacturers vs assemblers.
I am seeing the first 338 Lapua parts arrive and begin to ask why did I bury 6 1/2 years of my life in this thing. I am going to spend another two testing and marketing probably only to be crucified online for not selling parts so that people can assemble their own. Stood today and listened to an irate gunsmith blasting one of the sales girls because our 17 HMR AR uses our magazines and we will not sell parts so he can assemble his own.
The AR15 market is a strange beast. I can't think of any other market where the retail customer has the ability to demand critical components from the supply chain at these volumes, to where manufacturers have to compete on almost the same playing field, especially smaller manufacturers.
You can chalk it up to the design itself, being so modular, user-friendly, ergonomic, inherently accurate, with limited gunsmithing skills (if any) needed to put them together.
Combine that with the fact that the stooges in Congress tried to tell Americans that they couldn't own such a weapon, and you have a recipe for an unrelenting high-demand product that won't go away.
I think the real blame lies with the design: too easy to work with, which isn't a bad thing for me because I'm able to troubleshoot & prevent problems starting with inspecting the parts before even attempting to move forward. This experience has come at a cost of over two decades of working with AR's though, which the new consumer doesn't have...and I'm still learning about things that were under my nose (literally) the whole time.
I don't have a dog in this one but i must say the way Mr. Alexader has gone up and out of his way to help/fix a gun that isn't one he sold is 5 stars in my book. I know where my next grendel will be purchased. Glad to see there are still good guys/business men out there. Kudos to you Bill.

Dawg This is not the first time he has done something like this. He has been a strong supporter of this site and its members. We are lucky to have the man developed the Grendel so involved with us.

He makes a habit of this kind of assistance. This this forum is filled with threads documenting his assistance and input. I purchased my AA Over-watch Upper from Midway... they had it in stock and a promotion offering a $100 of for orders over $500 and one of my guns sold on GBer so my mad money was burning a hole in my pocket. I emailed him and told him I bought from Midway but would he answer a few questions. The response was timely and courteous and all questions were answered. I have since placed orders by phone for brass, mags, a spare bolt and a flash suppressor and have been impressed with all of his staff that I have spoken with. I am currently waiting for a 20" Light Hunter Upper that I ordered from him and eagerly look forward to shooting it. AA's prices on brass and accessories are competitive and BECAUSE of the way he and his staff have treated me and his support of the members of this forum.... for me, if it's Grendel related he gets my business.

Well I don't give a damn if you are an "utter bastard" or not, I just ordered a threaded Beowulf upper from all place *gasp* JSE Surplus (how ironic).
