If their custom shop Grendel shoots anything like my production CZ Varmint .22 WMR, I might be persuaded. (Wish the safety wasn't bass-ackwards though.)

I contacted CZ as well. I have about a grand in this year's new/remodeled firearm budget and would like grendel/.264 bolt gun but I also have a Remmy 700 in 30-06 that needs rebarreling. I'll probably go 6.5-06 with it. So, I'm a little torn. Can't do both.

Both are bad a$$ cartridges. I feel your pain. I also have a pass-down Rem 700 30-06 in need of a barrel. Near perfect condition on the outside but somehow the bore got pitted in the last 4-5 inches. I may just have it cut back to 16"-18" and load the heaviest bullets I can find for a brush gun.

ETA: I didn't ask about a varmint or anything, just for the regular 7.62x39 carbine in Grendel instead.

I should probably point out that Alexander Arms released the Grendel trademark less than 3 months before SHOT.

Most of NEXT years SHOT releases are in development at this point, and most of this years SHOT releases were in development 1-2 years ago.

No surprise that there were only a few Grendel groundbreakers at this SHOT. I'll expect more next year.

AND...we may see more interesting stuff at NRA, where Alexander Arms typically has a booth.

I got a response from CZ, and they are now aware that Grendel is SAAMI-approved. They said it will be 3 years before they do a production Grendel. If they just swapped out the barrel of their 7.6x39 guns, they would have killer sales I think.

My friend in NC had his done by their custom shop:

That would make a lot of Rem 700's and Winchester 70's stay in the safe for those who like a lightweight rifle. With the 130 Sciricco's, 130 Hunting VLD's, 129 SST's, etc., that would be a killer combo.

Sounds like my gun. It's an early 60s model (5 digit serial number) that my Dad gave me 45 years ago when I was 14 to go deer hunting. Like yours, the barrel is pitted about 5 inches from the muzzle. I've talked with a couple of folks about rebarreling. Darryl Holland told me has a lights out 6.5-06 reamer. I may do that this year and wait and see what happens with the Gren/.264 offerings next year.

What did your buddy pay for the custom job?

Not sure. I'll have to ask him next time we speak. Douglas select match blanks are pretty affordable, since they are button-rifled. He got the CZ kevlar stock.

A .264 Win Mag would also be nice, but since you already have the bolt face for an 06, the 6.5-06 sounds like a good choice. You can also have the barrel melonited for at least 30% more accuracy life, since that is a throat torcher, but for hunting volume of shooting, it doesn't matter until few generations down. You can definitely get some impressive velocities with that case and powders like H4831, H4350, RL19, RL22, N-165 and the 129-140gr pills.
