I agree, and I still shoot the 308. In fact, I just bought another one (Winchester XPR). Different tools for different people and different uses.

I haven't shot my 16 pound custom bolt action 308 since I built my first grendel and have no intentions of ever doing so again.
I already sold all the ammo I had for it, it just site's in the back of the safe incase a kinfolk or friend has a break down and needs a rifle last min like.

If Grendel is a dying cartridge, why is it the only recently introduced cartridge that:
* Has SAAMI certification
* Has CIP certification
* Has Steel case ammo readily available
* Has Federal Gold Medal Match available
That will probably never happen for 6.5 Creedmoor or anything else that has been introduced recently.

its my go to MSR accurate gun, I am always thinking of a new build for this cartridge, and its depth of use in the MSR or AR-15 platform is by far the very best overall. there is just no question about that,,,,,

This Ian guy may or may not have interesting info on historical weapons... I have about as much inclination to listen to him as I do, well.... MSM folks. I didn't get my recommendations on any shootin' stuff from him and probably won't, so his point of view, while he's welcome to it, doesn't interest me. He certainly doesn't rank as any kind of Grendel expert to me.

I love the Grendel and could care less what this guy has to say. My only concern is the lack of off the shelf ammo. Walmart around here never carries it and the local gun stores tend to be sold out. My guess is Walmart doesn't carry it since they don't appear to deal with Hornady which is basically the only company manufacturing hunting ammo for it since Federal seems more interested in pushing the Valkyrie, among other possible reasons. Walmart has plenty of Valkyrie. Doesn't matter that much to me since I buy online but it could certainly turn some people off.

Isn't that the truth? I have two builds in mind right now; a specialized DMR and a bolt configuration. The versatility of this round is amazing. From varminting to elk, from defense to precision the Grendel impresses. Don't really care that it doesn't come in a green ammo box.

So, I've been watching for some time, no comments found the necessary synapses in my brain to fire off a post. But, alas I find that I must comment in agreement with the Cabela's issue. I believe Bass Pro still considers the franchise to be competition, and is doing it's best to let it whither on the vine. The Cabela's here was always packed, and still has lots of cars in the lot. But the only thing they're interested in selling is the new BPS merchandise that shows up to take over more and more of the floorspace. The reloading section isn't worth visiting anymore. The ammo section is packed with 6.5 CM and 6.8SPC. There are ten slots for 6.8 (mostly full) and more than 20 for the CM (again, mostly full). There are now 2 slots of Grendel (Black and Wolf sc - always empty...)
I don't understand Ian's point, and cannot find the comment in the video linked. I didn't watch the whole thing, as it began to drive me crazy by 5m because of the droning and pace...
The Grendel is the best general purpose round I can find. Want to shoot small groups? At distance? Check. Want to hunt? Check. Want to be lethal on varmints? Check. Want to blast? Check. Want to run a high end rifle? Check. Want to build a budget rifle that actually performs well beyond it's weight? Check. Want to roll you own with multiple nodes in every bullet weight/class? Check. Want short, long, light, bench, bolt, single, semi? Gotcha.
I want a Henry .410/6.5Grendel survival rifle. My life would be complete.
The only folks that are threatened by Grendel are the folks that try to compete with it's general purpose ability and obvious performance...

Okay. See it. Thanks Stanc. I didn't have the guts to sit there for that long to ingest all the stuff that wasn't interesting to me first.
I have seen a few of Ian's videos, and have been really happy to have someone out there re-vitalizing the "Forgotten weapons" of our past. It's really interesting and as a friend of history, I enjoy learning about them. Ian's comment here seems snarky and irreverent. Fine. Not something I would have expected, but fine. As someone that loves historical firearms maybe Grendel needs a hundred years of proof in the field before he's interested. Seems to work for the Three o' Hate?

One of my son's just took down a good sized doe at around 200 yards, DRT. Not bad for a dying caliber.

I don't get the hate coming from Ian, especially since he'll do an interesting video about the 7.83mm cartridges that were used by the French from 1916-1918 in modified Chauchats issued only to troops guarding airfields, or whatever (I made that up, by the way)... I can only guess he was commenting as a shooter/competitor and not as a firearms historian.
