This argument is silly. You can not compare apples to oranges.
Forged is thinner, and billet is thicker where it matters. Forged will flex and break before billet will for this reason. There are a few uppers I believe are forged that are not mil spec which are probably as good or better than billet. The DPMS slick side at Midway comes to mind.

What I believe more in empirical testing over theory.
Pressure tested to fail, billet vs forged, @90k psi. You wouldn't want anyone you care about near the forged upper.

I suggest watching it, there is also an amazing case of barrel obstruction covered in this.
OTOH, it might be that the strength turns the forged into more of a bomb because it doesn't give until much later, with worse results where the billet looks like it opened up at the weakest point, with milder results.

You should get a 24 hr ban for posting that video (mostly joking). The hiss on the audio was louder than the person speaking. I tried listening for as long as I could. Beside I'm not sure gun blow-ups correlate to small groups.

It wasn't about groupings, it was about strength of billet vs forged and the results in an overpressure situation.
And it was stupid in some respects. Like holding up gun parts for people to see from a distance against your black t-shirt. DOH!

I'm running my 18" Satern cut rifled bbl in a Mega Arms Monolithic upper with a JP FMOS bcg and couldn't be happier. With my old crappy eyes I constantly get under 1 more groups. My best was 4 rounds into one ragged hole, then i flinched on the 5th, and opened it up to about 1/2 inch.
