So I take my gun to the smith to just put the upper together as I don't have any of the tools to do it myself. I hand over the parts and walk around the store patiently waiting for about an hour.
Finally its done I get called to come over and take a look. I walk over and check things out. First thing I notice is the flash hider isn't timed correctly its off by about 30° and one of the screws for the handguard is now broken.
Not so tragic....yet....
So Lee starts to talk to me about what was done and one of the first things he says , to my dismay, is that everything is OK and he fired 3 rounds and it all checked out okay....
Well first thing I ask is if he ran a brush down the barrel...why would I ask that might you ask..... well leave it to procrastination or what have you. I never took the time to removed the burr from the barrel that was by the gas port, and didn't mention it because it never occurred to be that anyone besides me would fire the first shot.
Even still you would think that someone putting a gun together would check the barrel or look for any obstruction prior to shooting.
Anyway, after I shook my head in disbelief and told him of the folly. He started to back track and say he did run a brush down it which later turned into I ran a patch down it followed by patronizing well don't you lubricate the barrel first yada yada.
I'm a calm individual and didn't raise a big scene but I did speak to others in charge and made them aware of the situation. and the other issues with the work done to the rifle. Obviously my confidence in the work is rattled. They do there best to show me a bore scope and I can't see any obvious scratches. And I'm not sure if I would be able to locate any damage on my own.
I guess its possible I got lucky and didn't get any damage to the barrel but then again I may just not know what to look for either.any ideas what I should be looking for once I have it taken apart?
I do plan on having someone else look at it as a second opinion.
Any thoughts?
Also to note. They had the gun in the back working on it again for an extended amount of time. Is there something I should look for if they were able to buff any damage out somehow?
They also said they would replace the barrel if I can find any damage. Then one guy says tell ya what just go out and shoot it and if its off let us know otherwise well just call it square and it'll be ok.
Obviously I'm not going to shoot it until someone else looks at it.
Kind of ticked off about it but I do feel partially responsible for not giving a heads up on the burr.
