So if the rifle is resting on a bi-pod in the front and you do not firmly support the rifle from moving after the round is ignited, the bullet moves so fast that it doesn't matter if the gun moves? (from recoil) It's already out the end of the barrel at that point???

It does matter and that's the human factor. The rifle must be firmly supported for your .256 milliseconds. The time you must support the rifle is less on a 16" barrel than on a 24" barrel.

No Assuming. You have no factor for bullet travel start up speed and recoil affect in that mathematical figure you stated.. me.cory (Mechanical Engineer) you should know better than that.

HAHA Engineering always starts with several assumptions and a model that's simplified as much as possible.

I'm not saying the human factor doesn't matter. It most certainly does.

What I'm saying is if you jerk when you pull the trigger, that extra 8" isn't going to magnify your error to a noticeable level. You're still going to see an error from your jerk just not anymore of an error from a 24" barrel than you would from a 16" barrel.
