There was some discussion in other forums about that time as well. Ironically, they would probably work just fine for the hunter and target shooter where the barrels get a chance to cool between shots. Reloadability is another issue.
The military challenge is keeping them from melting or otherwise misbehaving when the barrel and chamber start to glow from extended rapid or full-auto fire.
