If you doubt me, look into Governor Cuomo and his ties to the Mattone Group LTD. "construction firm". They tried to get the contract for a customs loophole in Pittsburgh to cut into the freight being flown into the US. 70% of the airborne freight comes into the US through JFK, and this Pittsburgh customs processing contract attempt by a mafia front company (Mattone Group LTD.) was an attempt by Cuomo's gang to break themselves off a piece of the pie.
As you look into the histories of these guys and gals, familiar names start to pop up, and they are all organized crime. Remember that Papa Joe Kennedy made his fortune smuggling alcohol for the Bronfman's (Siegram's) out of Canada, while defrauding investors out of millions in the 1920's and 1930's.
