It is now illegal in New York State to fail to report lost ammo.
Since it is now illegal to lose ammunition in the state of New York without reporting it I think it would be wise for the citizens of NY to organize a statewide "call to report lost ammunition day".
Tie up the police for a day, two, a week, month, however long it takes.
Heck, maybe we out of state residents could even call, tell them we were driving through and the trunk popped open, or a round fell out of your pocket, or your wife's purse tipped over and a few rounds rolled out.
So is there a website for NY gun owners? If one of you are from NY and can start up a movement you can force feed Cuomo his law! Perhaps on April Fools Day to point out the stupidity and silliness of this law.

WOW, my wife and I were just on vacation in NY yesterday and a bulk pack of 575 rounds of Remington 22lr spilled over in the back of my pick up truck as I was driving west from Albany toward Bufallo. By the time I got crossed the Pennsylvania border there was not 1 single 22lr left in my truck bed.
BETTER CALL OUT THE HIGHWAY PATROL AND ROUND THAT UP!!!
I really feel sorry for the law enforcement officers in situations like this, but the ONLY way to drive home the point to the politicians is to overwhelm the police and show the politicians what stupidity they have written into law.

This sounds like a precursor law to an ammunition regulation law. First they Pass a law that requires you to report lost ammo, then they pass a law that regulates and registers what you buy, quantities that you already posses, and requirements for you to report what, when, where, and how much you shoot. It's a kind of insurance that will keep people from saying they lost their ammo in an effort to avoid registering what they have. Think about ammo caching.... Well this "lost ammo" law might already prevent that in fine print. If it defines what "possession" is, it probably will not consider ammo cached as possession, hence your ammo is lost thus outside the law, but I have not read the law yet so I can't confirm this.

ericv, Dick's does the same thing, you have to show a premit to buy pistol ammo. For the past few years, Bass Pro has been making their customers sign in some stupid book when we buy ammo at the gun counter. I usually sign Barak Obama and give something like 123abc fruitloop lane for my address.
smoke', yes the are in effect registering the ammo with th passage of the "SAFE" act (profuse vomiting emoticon goes here...). NICS for EVERY ammo sale, and the state is supposed to establish a database of all ammo sales. That way, when the criminals go to buy ammo for their registered guns, the police know tht they wil have to pust their shoes and socks on to go stop a crime just before it is committed.
We are taking the state to court. I'm sure this will be a looooong ride...

Actions in NY: Court challenge in process now, non-compliance is almost universal among the citizenry, and the state Sherrif's association has issued a statement to the Gubnah that they are not in favor of the "Act" (perfect word for it, eh?) and are not interested in enforcing it.
However, this is New York, so I fully expect the spineless and willfully ignorant, self-righteous legislature and Gubnah to change nothing.
Then I move, or just stand in the liberty that was guaranteed by the blood of my fathers in the 2A, no matter what the potatoe heads "think" about it. Being forbidden to speak or preach Christ will most likely be the last straw. They already passed a law forbidding (!) speaking out against men masturbating on each other and other forms of Sodomy... I mean "gay" (there's another great word!) crap.

Normally I would just say move but where do you go where this wont effect you? Even here in GA the Idiots in Hotlanta are pushing for a ban.

This is a time where the citizenry needs to solidify the relationship with Law Enforcement Officers, against the enemies within government who have a different idea of how America should be governed. Most LE understand that they have families, will retire or find other work in the near future, and they will be citizens with inalienable rights like everyone else.
The line needs to be drawn between upholding their oaths of office to the People and the Constitution. They didn't take an oath to enforce the overlordship of Fuhrer Cuomo or some other dictator-in-the making. We're at the point when the frog has realized he's about boiled, and is trying to jump out of the pot. They turned on the burner back in the 1800's to ban firearms ownership from freed slaves, then cranked up the heat in 1934 to sear the frog's skin (infringing on our right to keep and bear the most important arms available at the time: machineguns, anti-tank weapons, mortars, SBR's, etc.), then put in-place a Federal system to license and monitor all firearms dealers in 1968.
At the State level, the organized crime families who have run New York and Chicago since the late 1890's started to see new competition coming in from Sicily, muscling into the Italian immigrant neighborhoods, so the criminal city councils and police chiefs passed laws banning the ownership of stiletto's, pocket pistols, blackjack clubs, and the preferred weapons of organized crime and personal defense at the time, then issued permits to their enforcers (cops doing "security" racketeering on weekends or off duty hours) to carry pistols. This is the sordid history of illegal and unconstitutional firearms laws in NYC and Chicago.
If you delve into American History in those cities and that era, the Browning Vest Pocket pistol was one of the most popular designs and was often given to family members and friends as a gift. There were no concealed carry laws until the Irish Mob passed them from their thrones on city councils, with the full support of their family/mob in the police chief's office. This is why you see the names you do in Chicago and New York politics, and they have never been vetted. The only major pushes for purging these types of criminals is when in-fighting leads to their demise, and another rival mob takes over. You see this struggle between the Irish, Italian, Sicilian, Jewish, and Russian organized criminal immigrant gangs dating back to the 1800's.
Prohibition is when the corruption was basically in the open. Everybody knew that everybody was dirty, all the way up to the halls of Congress. Any boy scouts in LE were purged during that time, and left in the cold or a shallow grave, right along with much of the moral fabric of society in the major metropolitan centers.

If you doubt me, look into Governor Cuomo and his ties to the Mattone Group LTD. "construction firm". They tried to get the contract for a customs loophole in Pittsburgh to cut into the freight being flown into the US. 70% of the airborne freight comes into the US through JFK, and this Pittsburgh customs processing contract attempt by a mafia front company (Mattone Group LTD.) was an attempt by Cuomo's gang to break themselves off a piece of the pie.
As you look into the histories of these guys and gals, familiar names start to pop up, and they are all organized crime. Remember that Papa Joe Kennedy made his fortune smuggling alcohol for the Bronfman's (Siegram's) out of Canada, while defrauding investors out of millions in the 1920's and 1930's. Once Prohibition was repealed, he secured the import rights for Siegram's, collecting 10-20% royalties for his family into perpetuity. That's why the Kennedy clan never had to work a day in their lives. They had so many politicians in their pockets, Papa Joe was able to secure the Ambassadorship to England for his son, Joseph P. Kennedy Sr..
Joseph P. Kennedy Sr. was appointed the head of the SEC (the then newly-created Federal gubm't organization designed to stop people like his dad from defrauding investors) by FDR, 1st Chairman of the Maritime Commission (helps to be in-charge of Federal regulations on ocean traffic when you're smuggling contraband into the US-all your competitors now have to pay you off for controlled deliveries free from inspection), and US Ambassador to England, despite him being pro-Hitler, even after England declared war on Germany! England forced FDR to recall him after that.
Of course, he had 4 sons, of whom we've only heard about 3: John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, and Ted Kennedy. The oldest, Joseph P. Kennedy Jr., was killed in August 1944, while flying a B-24 packed full of TORPEX high explosives as part of the Aphrodite program, where 2 pilots would steer a B-17 or B-24 filled with HE onto a collision path with a strategic target, then bail out with their chutes as a chase plane with radio control of the initiation system would then manage the terminal guidance and detonation of the giant missile onto the target. When Joseph P. Jr. was killed, guess who was flying the chase/Command & Control aircraft....

You will end up going down a rabbit hole if you're truly interested in US history, and how influential organized crime has been in it. The short story is that criminal don't like their victims to have any means of protecting themselves, and since criminals have occupied government every chance they get, you start to understand the reason why they pass so many unconstitutional acts under the disguise of legitimacy. It's as simple as that.
