ericv, Dick's does the same thing, you have to show a premit to buy pistol ammo. For the past few years, Bass Pro has been making their customers sign in some stupid book when we buy ammo at the gun counter. I usually sign Barak Obama and give something like 123abc fruitloop lane for my address.
smoke', yes the are in effect registering the ammo with th passage of the "SAFE" act (profuse vomiting emoticon goes here...). NICS for EVERY ammo sale, and the state is supposed to establish a database of all ammo sales. That way, when the criminals go to buy ammo for their registered guns, the police know tht they wil have to pust their shoes and socks on to go stop a crime just before it is committed.
We are taking the state to court. I'm sure this will be a looooong ride...
