So, maybe we can list the firearms common to the military and you can tell us which ones should be allowed for the public given current laws,and which shouldn't be allowed. I did not include the firearms that are already legal without a Class III such as the M-9, M-24, M-40, M-110, Barrett.

M-4 W/ 3 round burst.

M-4 with automatic capability.

M-240 with variants.

SAW with variants.

All of the above are allowed for the public given a Class III. None without a Class III. So, which of these should be allowed given a simple police check? Or, should the licensing requirements for automatic weapons be dropped and they be allowed for open sale to the public?

Incorrect. No licensing is required at all. Ownership (not a dealers license for those engaged in the business of transfering for profit) of NFA regulated firearms only requires paying the $200 registration fee, after submitting the paperwork.


Which ones on your list above should be allowed? All of them. Period. Bill covered it pretty well already in his excellent post. The Second Amendment isn't about what any of us "thinks" someone "needs".

The fundamental flaw in all of this Governmental garbage starts with people looking for the .gov to guarantee their outcomes.
They flat out can't do that, but they can come close in guaranteeing one thing---- The more power to control our lives that is ceded to them, the more they will certainly control the lives of the law abiding to negative ends.

For the other folks in this thread who may be confused about NFA items: All NFA items are still legal to own, and all NFA items except "machine guns" are still legal to manufacture for "civilian" sale. This includes cannons, grenades, suppressors, short barreled shotguns/rifles, etc., etc., etc.... One caveat about Destructive Devices containing more than 1/4 ounce of explosive--- They trip you up with "magazine" requirements and licensing for storage of explosives. A binary explosive grenade is being floated up the process chain as we speak. I may register a bunch of them if it flies. Why? Because I damn well can, and if it doesn't pick your pocket or break your leg--- it's really no else's damn business.

The ban on manufacture for civilian sale of machine guns post '86 is via a bullshit stunt they pulled via tax law. You have to pay a "tax" to make it legal, and BATFE will not accept the form and payment to issue the stamp.

It's prosecutable to make/sell/possess untaxed NFA arms outside of the government sphere.....

An example of not paying the NFA tax: Over the princely sum of $400 dollars in "tax evasion", Vickie Weaver received a .30 caliber projectile through the face while holding her ten month old baby in her arms.
