what's the relative humidity through out the year where you live? And the temps to go with it?? I expect to see that in WWII '03A3 barrels as they were still using potassium chlorate primers and the salts attracted water and pitted barrels. I've never heard of that or seen it before with modern primers/ammo, unless you were out hunting in the rain and didn't dry/clean/oil. but in that case it could get as rusty on the outside as the inside.

Live coastal SE Virginia. We have very high humidity for the relative temperature year round. 70-80% is not uncommon in the summer! This is what it looked like before removing the rust. Looked like I had been shooting Graham Crackers!
