You have me seriously considering going with a 20" now. I would like to enhance downrange performance ( especially bullet expansion velocities )
at extended distances.
I'm in Central Kentucky, so I think around 300 ft above sea level .
I'm also currently looking for a scope for this new build. I'm thinking somewhere between a 4-14x and a 6-24x FFP.
I've never done any LONG range shooting. When younger, a friend and I used to shoot groundhogs on his parent's farm at about 250 yards with a 7mm mag bolt gun. That was FUN
My eyes aren't what they used to be so I'm not really sure how much magnification I will need.

You used to have Rock Castle Shooting Center right near you, but the owners sold it at auction a few years ago. That would have been your best bet.

I tried looking around for any long ranges in Kentucky but am at a loss so far. It’s not my AO so I’m not that familiar with the State and available outdoor shooting ranges.

If you’re really tall, a 20” might make sense for busting brush and hunting in KY. Otherwise, I think 16-18” will do you fine.
