School Me On Grendel Barrels

Thanks for the answers LRR.
I currently have a Faxon 12" Grendel and am in the planning stages of something longer for extended range shooting. I'm trying to decide between a 16" or 18" barrel for the new build.

From shooter’s perspective and external ballistics, the differences between 12”, 14.5”, 16”, and 18” aren’t much to write home about.

I can list them in detail, but I personally just don’t see a big difference when behind the scope.

If you’re wanting to shoot more long range, it might be best to go with 20-24”, depending on what ranges you have access to and what elevation these ranges are at.

If you’re looking for more hunting reach, that’s another thing to consider.

It’s also easier to manage a rifle set-up versus a shorter gun when using a bipod and rear bag. The longer the gas system, the better-behaved the firearm is in the optic to spot your own hits.
