It's not really a question of cartridge. Bolt guns are easier to shoot well for what you have in mind. I wouldn't spend any money on the rifle. You'll find deficiencies in the Savage action after you've run it for awhile. Then you'll be in a position to make more informed decisions about where to spend your money.
