The brake at that point is about making recoil linear and almost non existent. At the bullet weight and velocity Mel is running things, it becomes more important than we would usually tend to discuss here. Mel has proven he's capable, and willing to push the envelopes, in my opinion. A long HB Grendel with no brake would be incomplete in my mind, the same way an ELR rifle on a bigger scale is, and for the same reasons. The suppressor would surely help here, but it adds a new dynamic set of variables to the system, and makes me worry about too much leverage on the barrel for an AR15 upper. Especially a Stainless and Inconnel can like my own. His I think are aluminum - and Titanium to come...
Really though, in the semi-auto, there's less to be gained from a brake. However, I still personally would forego the suppressor for the brake. It'd clean up the end of the rifle, and let you tune the harmonic to a T. That's harder to do without a direct thread suppressor. I'm not sure what Mel has planned there, I'm assuming a QD, but could be wrong.
