barrel replacements can be either way, or 50-50. Mostly if you don't have tools and/or confidence on the removal you can have the gs remove the old barrel. Then with go/no-go gages in hand you can usually install the new one. With these hex-shaped nuts and a torque wrench (pb has the crow's foot you'd need for their barrel) you can install and head-space and torque the new barrel. I've done a few savage barrels this way.
I even made myself an oak-wood based barrel holder with which I can clamp the barrel and adjust the action and the nut...
Don't use pine (obviously!).
Easy to do actually.
Trick on the go/no-go gages is to get a pair from the same mfr... I use Manson ones. Don't mix and match mfrs.
