As this has been a go to place for the Howa Mini, has anyone tried their nut system for the mini? I am going to hit the go button on one unless I hear different in the next month or so.
I am going to go against all I had initial intentions on with this one, 26 barrel and fairly heavy. Its going in the Oryx chassis. If I find it to long and unwieldy I can lop some off, hard to add length.
This is now a 223 that I am not happy with on extended shooting time. I have a 222 and 6.5G that I am very happy with for the money I have in them, both 1@100 out of the gate with no load work.

I purchased a 20 Vartarg barrel and nut from them . This barrel shoots lights out ! Im still in the process of fireforming my brass . I'm getting .250- .300 groups & 100 yds,sometimes better ????.Great bunch to deal with . I'm preparing to order a 6 AR barrel from them in the next couple of weeks .They are with Match Grade Machine ,which I have several of their Contender barrels.

I have looked into this as well. May rebarrel from a #1 profile to something heavier to thread for can. Using the nut system would you recommend as a DIY project or gunsmith? Removing existing barrel seems to be a issue sometimes.

barrel replacements can be either way, or 50-50. Mostly if you don't have tools and/or confidence on the removal you can have the gs remove the old barrel. Then with go/no-go gages in hand you can usually install the new one. With these hex-shaped nuts and a torque wrench (pb has the crow's foot you'd need for their barrel) you can install and head-space and torque the new barrel. I've done a few savage barrels this way.
I even made myself an oak-wood based barrel holder with which I can clamp the barrel and adjust the action and the nut...
Don't use pine (obviously!).
Easy to do actually.
Trick on the go/no-go gages is to get a pair from the same mfr... I use Manson ones. Don't mix and match mfrs.

With the nut system It seems possible with as mentioned with the right gauges. From a equipment/time factor I will probably talk to GS about doing it. The logical brain tells me to sell and get a Ruger with short barrel from factory, but I really like the Howa Action.

+1 to grayfox. My factory barrel required one smart rap with a 3# hammer to the action wrench handle to loosen it up . I only bought the go gauge & added scotch tape to head and trimmed edges for a no go gauge .

Preferred Barrel also has an option to send them your barreled action for them to replace the barrel .
