Ballistically speaking you should shoot no farther than you know you're bullet will expand to.
Most hunting bullets expansion threshold are around 1800fps. So whatever distance you're bullet drops below 1800fps is your max range.
From an accuracy standpoint its completely up to your own skills. Only shoot to whatever distance you know %100 you will hit the vitals.
For me personally this all comes down to 400 yards on something like a whitetail.
