If I was going to lap a barrel, I'd opt for a different approach.

Slather the first 4-6 inches in lapping compound, and then 4-6 inches in CLP. Pull it through. No fears about any of the above issues, especially when paired with their cleaning cable to pull it through. You'll just want to make sure you have a good way to anchor your rifle. Park your truck on it. Good to go.
