Well, when a patient of mine come in and his firearm falls out of his pocket and bounces across the floor, I generally safeguard it and continue the visit.. If he is seeking narcotics or other mind alternating substances ; -thats probably not going to happen today. If he is depressed and suicidal we try and find a buddy to safeguard the weapon till he is better (sometime I hold on to the firearem ill he is better ) . If he is manic, aggressive, psychotic or homicidal I'll do what I have to do to protect innocent people till he is no longer a thereat.-That includes locking him up for a few days till the meds work and he n longer hears voices telling him to kill everyone. . If anyone out there thinks I am overreacting or under reacting, please let me know.
