In Montana, state law 50-16-108 :Medical privacy, Medical practitioners may not inquire or record information about patient's possession of firearms, except if the patient is currently possessing a firearm at the time of the medical visit.

Had an ER Doctor ask me that once when he was sewing on the pad of my thumb I tried so hard to sever from my body back on. I was wearing a hat that said "The Second Amendment, America's original Homeland Security" on it, I looked at him and said "what do you think Doc?"

Well, when a patient of mine come in and his firearm falls out of his pocket and bounces across the floor, I generally safeguard it and continue the visit.. If he is seeking narcotics or other mind alternating substances ; -thats probably not going to happen today. If he is depressed and suicidal we try and find a buddy to safeguard the weapon till he is better (sometime I hold on to the firearem ill he is better ) . If he is manic, aggressive, psychotic or homicidal I'll do what I have to do to protect innocent people till he is no longer a thereat.-That includes locking him up for a few days till the meds work and he n longer hears voices telling him to kill everyone. . If anyone out there thinks I am overreacting or under reacting, please let me know.

Any person whose firearm falls out of their pocket and bounces across the floor, "is not a responsible firearm owner" and is in desperate need of training and should be instructed as such. Any person who is seeking narcotics, mind alternating substances, suicidal, manic aggressive, psychotic or homicidal, should never have a firearm or drive an automobile. As a strong supporter of our 2ndA rights, I expect all people who exorcise that right to take it very serious and to be held to the highest standards. Just like handling explosives, "it is not to be taken lightly" when one mistake can kill more than oneself. If a physician is fishing for information, "without any reason or history to suspect such problems as you stated above" then it is over reacting and illegal in my state of Mt.
