When I was in high school, I was bullied a few times until I got sick of it and bloodied the kids face right on the inside stairs of our school. There was blood all over the lockers and floor. A teacher asked me the next day what happened and I told him. He smiled and said he would take care of it. I heard nothing more of it. We were aloud to take care of our problems and the teachers knew who the trouble makers were. Grade school was no different. The same thing happened to me on the school bus with the blood flying.

Hmm. All of that blood makes me wonder who was actually the bully...

Being a tattletale was considered to be weak and no one ever considered it. If an unfair fight occurred, the older students themselves would educate the unfair bully. I, "as all of my friends were taught" not to go crying to our parents and school faculty. I grew up with loggers, miners and ranchers. We were taught right from wrong and were expected to stand tall even if we were scared sh@tless. Today, I would have been expelled or worse arrested and sued. Kids are punished for giving the smallest slights and the victim is expected to cry for help if some one is mean to them, sickening. I feel sorry for today's youth.

The schools do sometimes go a bit overboard in punishing trivial acts, but basically they're instilling in the kids the same behavior that will be expected of them as adults: Call the authorities "if someone is mean to them."

If your neighbor makes harassing phone calls to you, or throws rocks at your house, you can't legally go over and beat him bloody; you're expected to call the police. If you try to "deal with it" yourself, there's a good chance that you will be arrested.

Come on Stan, you had to of had the rules of the school yard?

Honestly, no. If there were such rules, I was blissfully unaware of them.

If you were bullied, failed or rejected, who would listen to you complain? You would just deal with it LOL.

The flaw in your thinking is that not everybody is equipped (mentally or physically) to "deal" well with such issues. I certainly was not, when they happened to me.

The only time I was bullied in school was in the 4th Grade. While on the playground during recess, a classmate -- who was much bigger and stronger than I -- shoved me against the fence and pinned me there briefly. He had me immobilized, unable to do anything in response. I was totally stunned, never having experienced anything remotely like it before, so the only thing I could think of to do was tell the teacher about it.

The only time I ever failed in school, as well as the only time I was rejected by a girl, were even greater emotional shocks, and I was totally unprepared to deal with either.
