Yep, two big mistakes here. First, the stock should be in the shortest position, as already stated.
Second, it would never even occur to me to hold the extension/buffer tube while I was doing it. When I've had to "mortar" a round out of an AR chamber, I hold the fore end in one hand and pull back on the charging handle with the other. Otherwise, your hand is in the way of the charging handle even if the stock doesn't collapse on your fingers.
Am I wrong? I must be, because those guys just oozed tacticooool. Until the finger smash, of course.

ETA: Oops. I just watched it again and it appears it was the hand pulling the charging handle that got caught. More understandable, but still, keep your fingers out of the way.
