Laser boresight round for the Grendel?

I have one and they aren't worth the money. It is easier and more precise to boresight using the eye. They work like the Army laser bore sight devices for small arms. You have to put the carbine into a very secure rest, insert the laser using the right size spud, and once in and turned on you have to adjust the beam to the center of the target via four very small set screws arrayed around the end of the laser. Then you turn the device 1/4 turn and adjust again. And so on until you can rotate the laser without the beam moving on the target. It takes about a half hour if you have really locked the carbine into a vice that will not move when you rotate the laser.

The plus side to that particular model is that mine came with a reflective target so even in moderate sun, you could get a bounce to about 25 meters. The downside was that the beam is pretty big at that distance. And since guys use the 68 sight, it is pretty much useless.

I can see why you dislike the laser bore-sight.

The one I use employs a screw-adjustable collet to keep the aft more or less centered. The front end is tapered so that it can be tapered by ensuring the whole device is deep enough in the muzzle. One still needs to exercise some care and double check by rotating the device in the muzzle to verify centering.

With the desired trajectory known for the 15-25 foot ranges one can find in a kitchen, living room, or workshop, one can then offset the aim point from the spot by the appropriate distance.

My experience with them versus looking through the bore? Looking through the bore usually got me within 6" at 25 yards. The bore-sight laser generally cuts that down by 1/2 to 1/3 or better.

My earlier years of shooting were with rifles with whippy, asymetric barrels and large caliber cartridges, so getting the bullet go where the bore was pointed was not allways assured, so 2-3" or better at 25 yards floats my boat!
