Consistent with every other centerfire cartridge, one sees velocity gains with each inch or centimeter added to the barrel.
We don't see many yard long or meter long barrels, however, because the rifle becomes decidedly unwieldy even for bench and prone shooting.
What barrel length have you been using in other bolt-action rifles or AR rifles? Compare this to the hunting, target, and pure fun shooting reported in this forum.
You will learn that a lot of folks do very well with 16 to 18 inch barrels at almost all ranges. The motivation for going to a barrel longer than 20 or 22 inches would result from the intent to make the rifle a dedicated long range shooter where almost all shots will be greater than 500 or 600 yards. At these ranges the added 100+ fps one gets from the very long barrel would translate into an advantage for minimizing wind drift.
My personal choice is 18" even though folks like LRRPF52 have outstanding success at all ranges with 16" barrels (40 cm long if you think metirc!)
