My first post on the forum and this caliber/gun combo is what brought me here. Saving up my pennies right now and hoping to have one of these by October for our November firearms deer season. Just cannot decide between the 20" heavy or 22" standard weight tube. Looking forward to reviews once guys start getting these in their hands.

^ I won't be able to get one for a while. ^ In the meantime I have My Grendle built on a short action Savage with a heavy varmint barrel. For me, the idea of a "micro" action is to have a light, compact, rifle. So when I can get one, I will be interested in the sporter barrel, light scope, and very little added to increase weight. I may even shorten the barrel to 16.5"?

Consistent with every other centerfire cartridge, one sees velocity gains with each inch or centimeter added to the barrel.
We don't see many yard long or meter long barrels, however, because the rifle becomes decidedly unwieldy even for bench and prone shooting.
What barrel length have you been using in other bolt-action rifles or AR rifles? Compare this to the hunting, target, and pure fun shooting reported in this forum.
You will learn that a lot of folks do very well with 16 to 18 inch barrels at almost all ranges. The motivation for going to a barrel longer than 20 or 22 inches would result from the intent to make the rifle a dedicated long range shooter where almost all shots will be greater than 500 or 600 yards. At these ranges the added 100+ fps one gets from the very long barrel would translate into an advantage for minimizing wind drift.
My personal choice is 18" even though folks like LRRPF52 have outstanding success at all ranges with 16" barrels (40 cm long if you think metirc!)

I would factor in your build plus height/weight, then look at your elevation above sea level, as well as the intended use of the rifle.
For traditional hunting where you won't shoot anything past 200-300yds, doesn't matter. Pick a length from 10" to 24" that best fits your height/weight, taking into consideration that shorter barrels will have more muzzle blast.
For target shooting and longer range hunting, you want as much barrel as you can get, within reason. I think 20-22" is where it peaks out, but each barrel is different.
Because I'm at higher altitude, I can get away with shorter barrels for long range work because barometric pressure is much lower, with thinner air, so bullets fly easier with less drop.
The closer you are to sea level, the more barrel length you have, the longer you will stay supersonic if you are looking at shooting 800yds and farther.
You also want to take twist rate into consideration. Tighter rates keep the bullets spun faster, longer, which helps with predictable impacts at longer ranges. I personally see this start to become important at about 700yds with the .308 Winchester, for example, where a 12" twist will start to fall apart from a 16" barrel.
My 16" AA Grendel barrel has a 1/7.5" twist, which keeps the projectiles very stable at distance in my experience.
