What area of the country will you be hunting? Personally I wouldn't go shooter than 11.5". I just sold my sdn-6 and I'm currently in the market for the new Surefire Socom Mini to go on my Grendels and 5.56s.
Thunderbeast do make awesome cans! Unfortunately the margin for error in design is very low on titanium cans compared to steel cans. Hence, why TB is more conservative.
Also I do recommend a heavy buffer and a stock with at least the option of a thicker rubber pad (magpul, etc) to make shooting it more enjoyable for the wife.
5.56 is a great round for even hunting if you remain within the limitations of the round.
