For a hunting rifle I'd recommend something like the Leupold VX-R 2-7x Ballistic Firedot. The scope is very lightweight, has a useful zoom range and plenty of elevation travel, and uses a simple, uncluttered ballistic reticle similar to what you'd find in an ACOG but with the daylight-bright Firedot illuminated aiming point. As with all VX-R scopes, the Firedot is motion-sensitive, so it only turns on when you move the gun -- you can leave the scope on and the battery will last for months and months because of the motion sensor activation. Glass is very good - the VX-Rs are well-known for having good glass.

Here's a VX-R 2-7x on a 15.5" 6.5G. When the Surefire can is mounted, this is one heck of a package for harvesting game...
