New Build, Input Requested - Mrlxt - 10-27-2015 Hey all, this will be my first ever AR build. I set out to create this build to replace my current hunting rifle (Rem 700 .308) with something shorter, lighter and just as effective at ranges less than 500 yd. The game to be taken ranges from Deer to Javelina. My overall budget with glass is $1500.00. Any input on part changes, upgrades or suitable replacements that are more cost effective will be greatly appreciated. Also, if I missed a part that I need please let me know. Options for Glass considered were the Sparc 2 w/ a Magnifier. New Build, Input Requested - Bill257 - 10-27-2015 Love my Sparc, but consider it a close range optic (100 yards). Mine is the simple red dot reticle. As the elevation is capped and there are no reticle hold over points it is not something that can quickly be changed. As a red dot, it doesn't offer the fine aiming point that allows a rifle to show its true accuracy at longer distances. It shines in its ability too get on target quickly not print sub MOA groups at 200 yards. The brightness control range has worked for me from dim morning light to mid day sun. If you can try one, you will quickly know if it is what you are looking for. Enjoy your build. New Build, Input Requested - ah1whiskey - 10-27-2015 looks like you pretty much got it covered. we shot the 500m range all the time with irons back in the day , good enough for uncle sam but i don't think i would want to hunt that way. a nice 1-4x scope is what i like for the middle distances popular ones are the leupolds and the vortex --- a leupold fire dot LW 2-7x would also be great hunting set up. a budget scope everyone seems to like is the vortex 2-8x HD diamondback ebay has a few for under two c notes. there are plenty of scopes that would do the job, a lot of it is just which one you like best. you may or may not have to have illumination -- if you don't have to have the red dot-- all kinds of good scopes for little $$$--- New Build, Input Requested - m796rider - 10-27-2015 For a hunting rifle I'd recommend something like the Leupold VX-R 2-7x Ballistic Firedot. The scope is very lightweight, has a useful zoom range and plenty of elevation travel, and uses a simple, uncluttered ballistic reticle similar to what you'd find in an ACOG but with the daylight-bright Firedot illuminated aiming point. As with all VX-R scopes, the Firedot is motion-sensitive, so it only turns on when you move the gun -- you can leave the scope on and the battery will last for months and months because of the motion sensor activation. Glass is very good - the VX-Rs are well-known for having good glass. Here's a VX-R 2-7x on a 15.5" 6.5G. When the Surefire can is mounted, this is one heck of a package for harvesting game... New Build, Input Requested - am4966 - 10-31-2015 Odin Works 18" or 20" barrel, Nitrided bolt carrier group(type II bolt) and gas block for around 400.00 and I believe it's guaranteed to shoot MOA.
