Wow, some real weird statements being made.
The Grendel chamber you guys think is the heat is the result of testing with the conventional throat designs. Alexander believes that throats using several angles offered a better chance of a wider range of bullets to perform to their potential. Alexander believes it works but there is debate over that point between shooters. This throat design also uses a bit wider neck as to allow for the potential that different brass manufacturers have slightly different thicknesses of brass. Both make sense because Alexander intended the cartridge to be more for military uses than civilian. Alexander believes that between the compound throat and wider neck that pressures are reduced.
I have both and have shot both since before it started defying the laws of gravity and haven't seen a bit of a difference between the two. Not in function, performance, or throat wear. In fact, I have used the same fired brass to load for both and haven't had a problem with chambering or function.
If you want performance from your rifle, either throat will shoot equally well given both use quality barrels. Sorry, but Liberty, Stoner, and other cheap barrels are not the type of quality that allows for consistent performance at longer distances.
And, within a few thousand rounds I am sure that the compound throat has eroded sufficiently to become a conventional throat. Probably in less than 1000 rounds.
I believe it is the quality of material and workmanship that is more important a factor than theoretical views of throat designs.
