"doing it near as well" is subjective...the 260, Creedmoor, or 284 may be less accurate in a lightweight rifle due to anticipated recoil (shooter dependent). The difference in muzzle velocity from a 260 and my 20" Grendel was between 50-150 fps for a 129 grain IB (powder choice dependent). That's only 98" drift vs 106" drift at 1000 yds (roughly 7% difference for 150 fps delta). That's with roughly 40 grains of powder for 260 and 31 grains for the Grendel.
Which is more efficient?
For comparison, a 168 grain IB .308 has 118" of drift at 1000 yds.
The difference between 6.5 Creedmoor and Grendel is even less (and I'm using load data for a 24" barrel for the 260 and Creedmoor). If I projected a 24" barrel for the Grendel, then the difference is almost nil.
My bolt Grendel did just fine at Boomer Shoot this year (and was much more pleasant to shoot during an all day event).

LOL...apparently not. But the fact you are slinging mud here says a lot about you.
BTW...I see you run a muzzle brake on your Grendel...the irony. ROTFLMAO

Bjorn 16,
There is no reason for me to post any more with GMinor.

I ran a brake because, the barrel came threaded. For fast follow up shots like in timed competition a brake is a valuable piece of gear.
I do not run brakes to reduce FELT recoil, I run them on rifles when I am shooting for time.
Good marksmanship fundamentals will negate ANTICIPATED recoil.

I'll take a swing at this and try and clear up some of GMinors confusion. My bolt action Grendels are great hunting rifles. For deer and hogs and smaller game. I dont hunt much at 1000 yards but then who does? I hunt where I can hit running hogs at 30-300 yards. My Grendels work better than my magnum rifles at those ranges and because they are bolt actions I can put a little heavyer bullet in them the in an AR or something like the 6.8. Then again I am taking a friend on her first deer hunt in 10 days. She stands 5'0''. She weighs maybe 90 lbs. She never shot before today. My 30 06 was too much gun (she could maybe learn in time but who has that anymore) My 6.5 mauser with its 26 inch barrel was too big and clumbsy for her. It would not be right for me to carry her hunting rife on her hunt. So we sighted in a 6 lb grendel with a 18 inch barrel in today. No muzzle blast to speak of; 40 min gun safety and target practice and she was shooting 1.5 groups. We will be good to go.
I watched BjornF16 and his son shoot away with the Savage and 18" AR15 Grendel for 3 days straight. At the end of each day, their position looked like a belt-fed had been there, but they were hitting targets like it was fun. The Savage with a a featherweight barrel profile was good for hitting 4" targets at 400yds with boring repeatability.
I guess the main answer is, you can shoot with it all day, get really good with it and confident in shot placement, with basically no mentionable recoil, and kids can shoot with it too with no recoil anticipation, yet it still delivers more energy than one would expect for such a small cartridge.
I have shot 3-day sniper instructor courses before with a lightweight barreled .308 pushing 155gr Scenars, and by lunchtime on the first day, I had a pounding headache. The 140gr and even 130gr .260 Rem loads I shoot would generate quite a bit more recoil in a lightweight hunting rifle.
There is the allure of the 6.5 Grendel bolt gun. We also have forum members who have shoulder injuries, or are amputees, and a light-recoiling rifle with high BC pills makes a lot of sense there too.
Most importantly, this forum has normally been known for gentlemanly conduct. We're not perfect, but we strive to treat each other with consideration and respect. On other forums, it is common to see personal attacks, name-calling, and challenging of one's manhood, but not here.

This makes sense... I can understand it for a light weight hunting application (hell of a lot better than trucking a .223 out into the woods)
For a target rifle, it does not make sense to me, and that is fine.

You also have forum members who cannot access AR15 type rifles - not that I would use one for hunting anyway. The Grendel in a 6lb bolt gun is a joy to use and is perfect for the scenario hm2 clark outlined. It is why my Grendel was built.

What action do you have your light Grendel in, a 6 lb walk around gun sounds real nice. The barrel alone on my Grendel bench gun weighs 6 lbs ;- )

I can't speak for him, but the CZ-527 Carbine in its factory configuration chambered for 7.62x39 weighs less than 6 lbs.

It's a good candidate for a Grendel conversion.

Adam,
What is the maximum COAL you are limited to in your micro action?

It makes great sense in my bolt gun which is a 15 inch Nesika Silhouette pistol shooting steel in IHMSA. Gun only weighs 6lbs. 140gr bullets at 2200 fps, perfect for silhouettes out to 200 meters with low recoil. I have found it to be a perfect cartridge for what I use it for.

wll Read about it here - http://www.65grendel.com/forum/showthrea...del-Take-2
As for cartridge length? I'll get back to you on that later today. The whole rifle is in pieces being sandblasted so I can Cerakote it later today.

Maybe the simplest answer would be 'because I don't have one'. LOL.

This was 6am this morning and was heading toward this mob I spotted, but I got onto another lot in a more accesable position.

So for the lightest option, the mini mauser (Rem 799) seems to be the way to go. Savage is a little heavier, but still allows longer COAL. It appears the CZ limits COAL.

Measured up last night and the Mini Mauser/Zastava m85/Rem799 magazine box for the 7.62x39 gives me 2.373" or just under 61mm.
Oddly enough, I don't use the full magazine length, having found accuracy comes with the NBTs and TTSX bullets seated off the lands. The 100gn TTSX show similar accuracy to the 100gn NBTs, and a 100m zero that is closer than I can hold in the field.
