Best scope for bolt Howa

I got a email from Midway today and they have the Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44 with free rings and shipping for $299. I have two of these and they are grate scopes especially for that kind of money.

That is a pretty good price for a viper.

For hunting, I have mostly Weaver Grand Slam 2-8x36 scopes mounted on the mini’s. Picked up quite a few on sale at Natchez for $200 and under. Excellent Japan made optic and a great value IMO.

I got one of those from Natchez too ($189), great scope for an amazing price. It's perfect on my 6.5Grr AR that I built for Texas hog hunting.

It's frustrating when shooters ask "what scope" without any real info on the conditions where they'll be hunting.
If you're still hunting in the thick eastern woods a 1-4x, 1-6 or 1-8x or a 2-7x may be perfect when you jump a deer at 20 yards. The lower magnification is important.
A lot of us would do well with the regular 3-9x if the terrain were a little more open. Good out to a couple hundred yards.
Here in NM the Grrr is good for Antelope (though I'd carry a 6.5CM) with a scope in the 14x-16x range.

I put a 2-8x on mine because most shots will be less than 200yds and I will sometimes be stalking close in the woods.

SWFA 6x42mm in MOA or MIL versions, I linked below. SWFA makes really nice scopes, but they are way outside my blue collar budget.

You'll get lots of different answers, but I have a Vortex Diamondback 4-12 on my Howa, and I love it. 4x is good for quick and close shots, 12x is enough for any distance you could ethically kill a deer. Glass is clear, eye relief is generous. I took a shot at a deer this year less than 20 minutes before sunset, and had no trouble seeing through the scope. For $200, it's a great option.

I don't know if the 3-15 Leupold VX-5 HD Firedot can be beaten for a hunting scope on the Grendel. Pricey, but the glass is as good as any other more expensive hunting optic I've had the pleasure to see through. And it's always lighter than anything else similarly featured. By a mile.

if you are hunting big game (deer, hogs) out to 250 yards or so and compact and light weight, with great optics at a modest price, try an find a Leupold FXII 4x33. 8mm exit pupil (great for low light). scope is compact, short, and light weight (9 oz.) has a lot of elevation and windage range (80MOA) and the turrets are dead nuts repeatable.

not the best choice if you're trying to shoot prairie dogs at 500 yards, but for bigger critters up close the 4x is enough magnification, and the field of view is stellar.

Its all about application. When we walk the swamps of Ft Stewart for hogs I run a Leupold VX5 HD 1x5 with firedot reticle. Put me in a field shoot at distance and my 4x12 shines.

I use my 20" HB 6.5G to hunt coyotes and I personally just love the Meopta 1.5-6x40mm with a German #1(pointed post) the large FOV is great for close in stuff and 6x will get me as far as I care to shoot (300 yards and change). This rig makes a nice compact set up for on the bike.

I've since moved the Meopta to another coyote rifle I'm working with and have a Burris Model 4x 1.5-6x40mm w/illuminated dot on the rifle, another great one for close in and far.
