Nightforce nxs 8-32x56 1/4 0r 1/8 moa ?

The problem with the higher powers is being able to actually use them at distance. I usually can't use much over 20x at 1000k around here. The mirage becomes too much. For closer range benchrest type stuff I'm sure it'd be handy, but if you don't plan on using it that way you might be better served with a 5.5-22x56 instead. If you use it for anything more mundane like hunting then the 5.5 power would also be nice to maintain. Just my opinion.

I considered the lower power for the mirage because it is extremely bad here in Louisiana at times. All things considered I figured I would have the extra magnification if i needed it and if the mirage was bad I could just turn the magnification down as needed to compensate. This is a bench rest precision rifle that I shoot at various distances.

Thanks for the input though, I like to get different perspectives on topics I post. It helps me to make very informed well rounded decisions before I build or buy something.

I have NXS 2.5-10x32mm (grendel AR-15), 3.5-15x50mm (.50bmg single shot), and 5.5-22xmm (.260 DPMS-LR) scopes. The 2.5-10 and 3.5-15 have NP-R2, and the 5.5-22x has NP-R1. All have 1/4MOA clicks.

That said, I have never had a problem with 1/4MOA clicks out to and beyond 1200yd (gone beyond a mile with the .50bmg). Then there is NP-R1 vs. NP-R2. I suggest if you're getting a 3.5-15x or bigger, get NP-R1. It's not as "cluttered" as it may look. I assume you want a lot of magnification. Personally I would get the 5.5-22x in NP-R1 w/ .25MOA clicks, OR MLR w/ .10 mil clicks.

Why? Because even with the 8-32x, the Mil/MOA scale on the reticle only works at 22x (I.e. you have to set your 8-32x scope to 22x to be able to use the scale correctly on the reticle), and you get 35MOA more max elevation adjustment range with the 5.5-22x vs. the 8-32x.

I use a 12-42x56 on my F-class rifle. I prefer the 1/8 moa as I am trying to hit a 3" circle at 600 yards. 1/4 moa at that distance is 1 1/2" or 1/2 my X. I prefer the ability to fine tune. In this sport 1 1/2" means a lot.

I'm glad you told me that about the NP-R1 vs NP-R2, i was concerned about the cluttered reticle, that's why i was leaning toward the NP-R2. I definitely want a lot of magnification and i have talked to several people about the differences between the 22x and the 32x and every one said to go with the 22x because of all the reasons you described. I sure appreciate the input !

I sure wish i was closer. i would love to be able to compare these different scopes in person. I kind of like the ability to fine tune my scope as well.
