I'm hoping Bill jumps in on this thread. I know that we've all seen the announcements that trademarks for 6.5 Grendel have been released and it will become a SAAMI spec. However, I can't find anything that relates to a PR announcement from Alexander Arms, and the SAAMI site is...well, sterile (probably as it should be, eh?  ).
Does anybody know if there is an official statement somewhere, other than the joyous news on ARFCOM?
It was announced at the meeting hosted by David Fortier, so I'm not sure I would draw any conclusions based on the lack of website updates of various industry figures, to include SAAMI. Things happen very slowly in this industry.

SAAMI takes a while to get anything up. AA just hired Wayne Holt, who used to be at Hornady, to run the PR and commercial side of things. I would believe that they are turning stuff over to Wayne in that regard, and that once he gets his feet wet, the announcement will be made official by AA.

Coming from the tech industry, we don't announce stuff until our PR messaging is teed-up and key messages are aligned. I'm still getting used to how things work in the gun industry. I'd hardly attribute this to any ADD on my part, after all, I'm a mature....ooh! Is that a new Grendel upper? Shiny!

The Grendel is still listed at the US Patent and Trademark office. You can check it at http://www.uspto.gov/trademarks/index.jsp.
Until that happens the process will not start. It usually takes about 10 days to handle this but again. Its the first step.

Believe what you want, but it's a SAAMI cartridge now and AA has explicitly said it "will relinquish its federally-registered trademark and that "6.5 Grendel" is to be the common commercial name for a cartridge that adheres to the specifications adopted by SAAMI."
Further, unless you're manufacturing barrels or ammunition, it didn't affect you anyway.

Hmmm. No one said that they were not going to do it! Did they? Then why the condescending remarks, that is unless you are part of the issue.
All I said was that it was still under patent and trademark coverage. and no one is going to do anything until that is removed. Why take the chance that a lawsuit or damages will occur.
Its not good business.
And just in case you were worried about it...I have 7 Grendels of various sizes and thing it is one of the better cartridges out there.

No one seems to be concerned that Remington has not release trademark on Fireball. Or Blackout. Or similar with other companies.
There is a difference in allowing free use vs deleting the trademark. I don't know what AA has exactly done, but my understanding is that SAAMI is concerned with allowing free use of the trademark for mfg purposes, not that a trademark exists.
Go to the Patent and Trademark web site and snoop about. Nothing on the term Blackout or Fireball at all but 6.5 Grendel is there in black and white.
The issue is this. No company or individual will touch the system until it is released as a trademark. A lawyer will gladly charge you 300 an hour to tell you why.
The fact that it is released to SAAMI makes no difference until that issue is resolved.
Sorry if I raised a ruckus. I was simply stating a fact that has and will cause some company a headache and lighten their wallet. It happens pretty often in other industries and is well documented.

Actually, any SAAMI member has no concerns, since the release to SAAMI specifically only applies to SAAMI members, per the SAAMI guidelines.
As for the rest, a public announcement, as stated by the company and widely disseminated, would be impossible to retract under these circumstances. There are already multiple companies announcing or showing SAAMI Grendel rifles, including LAR, one of the largest AR manufacturers in the country.
The paperwork to "officially" remove the Trademark may take some time for the attorneys to work through, including check offs by Alexander Arms attorneys, as well as all the company attornies, ie... Hornady, Wolf, J&T, JP, etc., all of whom hold licensing agreements and financial interest in the Trademark. So far as I am led to understand, there are no roadblocks, just boxes to be checked off and signed off.
I spoke with Bill last night, and he is very happy that the burden to shepherd the Grendel forward is being lifted, and looks forward to it being carried on by the many companies who are recognizing its advantages.
