Really??? A good friend of mine has dogs for hunting mountain lions and treats them with better care than most mothers care for their own children..It takes a lot of time, money and training to get a good group of dogs. Mistreating them would not be ethical or productive..This post proves that hunting tactics, shot placement and having enough gun is paramount, not cruelty of hunting dogs..If decisions are based on the worst offenders, your logic could be applied to banning anything.. Hunting, trapping and wildlife management is what is needed, not personal emotional prejudices..Judging a group as a whole, "based on the lowest denominator" is being Intellectually-dishonest...

My only story involving hunting dogs is much less serious. I worked at a manufacturing plant in a county that allowed deer hunting with dogs. I need to say that sometimes I would say something stupid just get a rise out of people and see if they knew I was kidding or if they really thought that I was an idiot.* Someone had put a hand-lettered ad on on of the bulletin boards:
ALUMINUM DOG BOX FOR SALE.
A number of my co-workers were standing around when I announced: "That's a good price, but I ain't got an ALUMINUM DOG."
I honestly don't know if some of those folks ever realized that I was trying to be funny.
*At the time, it did not occur to me that some people might indeed know that I was joking, yet still consider me to be an idiot.

The people that were not smart enough to realize you were joking and thought you were an idiot, are the actual idiots. And you should never worry about what an idiot thinks of you.
