It's all panic buying. It makes folks feel like they have some control over a situation. Be it toilet paper, ammo, food, batteries, etc.
If you have a thousand rounds of ammo or the means to produce even half that much, if.....again I say "if" you ever had cause to really need that much ammo in one caliber, it probably doesn't matter if your store is sold out of stock.
I roll my own ammo and buy some of my 9mm and all my 22 rounds. If I really needed to use that much ammo, who gives a rats a#@ if I can't buy any more. It isn't like Hollywood folks.
There aren't "Native Americans" on horseback riding in a circle around your house so you can go through 1000 rounds and take them all out so you can go out and buy some KFC through the Drive-Thru"!
Buy what you need to enjoy shooting like we all do. It will come back. If there is money to be made, the industry will be there for the consumer.
The time to hoard ammo and reloading materials is if we see a different White House resident or a different majority in the Senate or both. Now that would be a really scary time!!!!!!!!

Went to Academy after work today to get a couple of cans of Coleman propane for my Annealeez.And I walked through the gun and ammo Dept..Just about every type of ammo was sold out. There is no 22LR,no 9 mm ,no 357 ,no 45 caliber,no .223 ,wasnt even many shotgun shells.Glad I dont need any ammo .I have tens of thousands of everything I shoot,and then some!
Anyway,the shortage is probably just temporary because of the coronavirus panic. Maybe they think someones going to try to rob their toilet paper.LOL! My advice is if it isnt urgent for you to go shopping,dont. People are being ridiculous.

You all do realize there is an election in 7 months right? This level of shortage will not abate until after the election. And thats if Trump gets re-elected. If grandpa get elected this shortage will last for a while. Sandy hook took a long time to get everything in stock. A year+
Trump has been a killer for the gun industry, which isnt a bad thing. No one is worried hes taking away rights so there isnt a huge supply of guns, ammo, components just waiting to be shipped in.
There was already a significant short supply of powders before this happen. 8208xbr has been very hard to come by. Varget has been tough.
If you need reloading components, buy them now.
