My first kill with the Grendel

Still hunted into this fellow 12/30 on some of our local public lands.
    Deer-With-Rifle-for-web.jpg
Shot was 30 yards. Hit him just inside the shoulder as he was sharply quartering to. Bullet was factory loaded Barnes 115 Tac-TX from a Howa Mini 20".
He ran 100 yards straight downhill into a field of logging slash.
I did not immediately see an exit, and had to rush to drag him a mile and a half to the car to get him to the butcher and before closing.
The bullet destroyed one and a half of his lungs, and a piece of something lacerated one of the chambers of his heart. Chest cavity forward of diaphragm was just full of blood.
No blood trail to speak of (I assume because I aimed a bit high).
Believe he only got as far as he did because gravity was carrying him.

      Very nice.

Given a path downhill, they can run. I shot a big mulie doe this fall at 50 yards with a 35 Rem. It did an amazing amount of damage, including a broken front leg, baseball sized entry hole into the chest cavity, trashed heart and lungs, nick of the liver and nice exit hole. From the tracks in the snow she staggered sideways on impact. Still made it 100 yards, mostly downhill.

Good looking buck and rifle. Congrats sir. Mile and a half drag that is a lot of work on that big boy.

Thank you! I wish I could take credit for the rifle, but I bought it used with the pictured stock. Someone (but not me) had good taste.

I am hoping to use the off season to tweak things, though. First up is a lower, two-piece base, to better suit the shooting I do.
