16" scope mount/bipod

Hello,

I think I have my scope picked out. I like the Night Force 2-5 - 10 X 32. What do I do for a mount and rings? Also, Im thinking of a bipod, what should I look for in that department?

You really cant go wrong with a harris bipod. For a mount i like the Larue Tactical mount. But these are just my opinions and taste. Maybe the others will offer you some other ideas.

I can't help you out with the scope mount, but I just scored a super deal on ebay for a harris 6-9" swivel bipod and a knights bipod adapter.both items were brand new .......for $80! I am looking forward to trying it out.

I've used a couple of Rock River Arms quick detachable mounts which are very robust and well finished. If your going to mount a backup sight you need the cantilever mount which is $60. The standard one piece mount is $50 and last time I ordered RRA had free shipping. Burris has a PERP mount which are good mounts for $65. If you have the money Larue and ARMS have high quality more expensive quick detach mounts. If your looking for extra high scope rings without a riser there are mounts from just about every manufacture and a broad range of prices.

they are reasonably heavy, but then again I am used to having a light AR. I wouldn't leave the bipod on, just use it while shooting from a bench. Otherwise, it makes my AR way too front heavy.

The NightForce 2.5-10x32 or a Vortex Viper PST 2.5-10x44 would be the "largest" scopes I would consider mounting on a 16" Grendel, as they are quite compact and really fit that package well if you intend to engage man-size silhouettes out to 600 or 700yds, which is where the 16" Grendel reaches its effectiveness limitations I think.

I usually default to LaRue mounts for all my AR15 and AR10 mounts, & I especially prefer the LT-112 with 20 MOA of cant built-in. It isn't cheap, but it is exactly what I have been wanting in a mount for years. I have yet to ever need the goose-neck mounts from LaRue, even with 1-4x scopes that have 4" of eye relief.

Desert Tactical Arms also makes an outstanding 1-piece scope base for 1913 rails. I really find the QD and return-to-zero features of the LaRue mounts hard to beat when it comes to optics mounting though. You don't need tools to remove and re-attach your scope once it's set up.

Check out the Tango Down bipod if you don't get a Harris. They are very well-constructed, but pricey. Are you seeing a trend here...

They don't advertise the LT-112 on the site for a reason. The LT-111 is the same, without the 20 MOA cant, which you won't need anyway on a 16" Grendel, but you might prefer to have the LT-112 if you get into long-range shooting later. You can also get one of the LT-158 goose-neck mounts with the VFZ mount if you want to drop the price to $145, but the QD feature is really worth having instead.

I know I sound like a rep for Vortex, but you really can't go wrong with them. I have zero financial or personal interest in them, and no professional arrangement with them-just a very happy customer. You will be very happy with the 2.5-10x44 Viper PST. Ask around-they are great scopes.

Copy. Im going to take your advice and go with the Viper and the Larue mount. I really appreciate all the help. I wont be home until October, but I will let you know how it turns out.

I have become ambivalent about who makes the bipod since I have seen so many get trashed when under marginally hard use. It didn't seem to matter if it was a Harris or a clone that cost from 1/3 to 1/2 the price. Both broke when under the same stress. And looking at both in terms of material, design, and quality it was apparent that both were equal. The big difference was in price.

So, in this case I trend towards seeing if the design fits my use requirements and then seeing which one is cheapest. I view them as a disposable item as I have broken a number and seen tens of Harris bipods break under marginally hard use. Honestly, the cheapo CHICOM imports work just as well as a Harris, adjust the same way, and break the same way.
