I recently finished my grendel build and am planning on using it this deer season. My rifle shoots the factory 123 grain A-Max amazingly. I plan on reloading for my rifle in the future but not until after I put a few more boxes of these through it first. (Partly because they shoot so good, partly because I would rather reload my own brass than spend the money on buying brass) I have read good things about the a-max for hunting but just wanted some more opinion. Can I be confident in this ammo come October or should I load up something else?

Welcome! General consensus seems to be that the 123 Amax will smoke midsized game like deer.
I don't hunt anything but coyotes, so I won't testify to their effectiveness, but everyone I've seen that has used them has reported good results.

hey thanks, what kind of expansion can I expect out of the A-Max, from what I have read, it seems to be somewhere between the SST and V-Max, which I would consider perfect, is that right or am I totally off? Our deer here arent real big so I like a bullet to do a little damage before it exits and I HATE tracking, to many thorns...
I am sure you will be quite pleased. Put your first shot where you want it and you will not need a second. My favorite part of Grendel hunting is that given the limited recoil, I can keep the target in my sight picture and see impact. Enjoy.
Take a look in the hunting section about what I shot last season @465yds and the AMAX performed well, in fact that was a 14.5" bbl too

nice buck warped, nice rifle too. I beleive I have found the confidence I have been looking for. Im not sure why I have been so worried, my plan is to use the Grendel for head and neck shots on does, cull bucks and hogs, I plan on keeot ping my ole .300 win mag in the stand in case I see the big boy, but its nice to know its not absolutely necessary and that the 6.5 will work just fine
You won't need your .300winmag, might as well leave it at home.
I agree with warped. A well placed Grendel shot will dispatch any size whitetail. Save the .300 for Rocky Mt. elk.
The Amax is deadly on whitetails. We took two last year with them at less than 150yds. Both came out the off side shoulder. Both went less than 25yds. Nice blood trail. Good luck.

WELL played, my man! Shooting the yarn? Sometimes luck is better than skill, especially when it shows up EXACTLY when you need it! Oh, wait, I'm SURE you could hit that yarn 10 of 10 times. . . . ;-)

Note to self, don't shoot with Docker. Will hurt ego. Good shooting, my rifle won't do that, or is it the shooter
What barrel you have? Other parts of your rifle?
I've been unable to beat the Hornady 123 AMax factory ammo with my handloads: 0.8" 3 shot group @ 300y.... wow.
