Status of gun industry

Attention F.B. fans: to follow will be several IMPORTANT Info updates about the status of the gun industry currently, followed by an INVENTORY UPDATE: We traveled to Texas for Industry meetings concerning the shortages, here's what we were told.

Smith & Wesson-is running at Full capacity making 300+ guns/day-mainly M&P pistols. They are unable to produce any more guns to help with the shortages.


RUGER: Plans to increase from 75% to 100% in the next 90 days.

FNH: Moving from 50% production to 75% by Feb 1st and 100% by March 1. Remington-Maxed out!

Armalite: Maxed out.

DPMS: Can't get enough parts to produce any more product.

COLT: Production runs increasing weekly...bottle necked by Bolt carrier's.

LWRC:Making only black guns, running at full capacity...can't get enough gun quality steel to make barrels.

Springfield Armory: Only company who can meet demand but are running 30-45 days behind.

AMMO: Every caliber is now Allocated! We are looking at a nation wide shortage of all calibers over the next 9 months. All plants are producing as much ammo as possible w/ of 1 BILLION rounds produced weekly. Most is military followed by L.E. and civilians are third in line.

MAGPUL is behind 1 MILLION mags, do not expect any large quantities of magpul anytime soon.

RELOADERS... ALL Remington, Winchester, CCI & Federal primers are going to ammo FIRST. There are no extra's for reloading purposes... it could be 6-9 months before things get caught up. Sorry for the bleak news, but now we know what to expect in the coming months. Stay tuned, we'll keep you posted...

Every weapon of military utility designed within the past 100+ years was gone. This isn’t a society stocking up on certain guns because they fear they may be banned. This is a society preparing for war.

When this was posted on the FN forum one of the members there indicated he had heard from Magpul at the shot show that they would be able to come out with their new line of pmags this year in an amount to meet the market demand and in a reasonable amount of time. I have zero idea how credible this source was...but perhaps there is someone here that could get a direct answer from Magpul to confirm.

Interesting...I was lucky, smart, whatever...but I stocked up on a lot of stuff back in August/September (ammo, primers, powder – I am short on 9mm and .45 bullets, and of course Grendel ammo). Hopefully things will get better soon.

Sorry for being a defeatist, but my gut told me the incumbent was going to win the election, and with the news full of the Colorado shooting, I had a BAAADDD feeling, hence the stockpiling. The more recent events only exacerbated the problem.

Alot of us had that same sickening premonition! The trouble is if you like to shoot this sucks because youre afraid to go shoot up your ammo that you have. Just go try to buy .22 lr. Since when is finding .22 lr ever been IMPOSSIBLE to find? Im 48 and ive never seen it, ever.

.22 ammo has been hard to find for some folks several times, including right now. Our local stores are completely sold out of .22LR ammo! When it comes in, it's quickly sold out. Luckily, I also saw this coming & bought a fairly good supply of it last summer.

I have a concern that the current AWB that has been proposed is possibly a "bait in switch" bill. Maybe what the administration is really after is not the evil black guns and Feinstein's list of 157 guns to ban. They may use that list as bargaining chip when the bill is modified and rewritten in a back-room bipartisan deal. they may drop the banned gun list in favor of what they really want, which is the national who has what database (so they know where to get the guns later in a martial law scenario) and an AMMUNITION BAN. Think about it. What good is a semi auto rifle without ammo to feed it. What if they were planning the ammo ban for a year or so now... What would they do. They would buy out the civilian market of ammo before the ammo bill gets serious traction. They would use a bait in switch so that the gun owners and NRA are sort of appeased. Have you tried to buy .223 lately. How about primers. The surge of federal sales is not from the military. The military is scaling back from conflict. The billions, Yes with a B, of rounds that are on order are to the alphabet agencies such DHS and they get priority.

There is a ammo ban already proposed for Internet sales in the house.

I got kind of lucky too. I bought two cases of 123 Hornady amax few months back. 400 rounds worth. I am glad I did.

I'm pretty well set for a while but I don't like reducing my inventory. I learned after the shortage 2008 to stack the ammo/ component closet deep and replenish supply as material goes out.. This should pass but you never know...

Wish I would have seen the writing on the wall, got a new .22 and have trouble finding ammo. I've searched high and low and was able to get some. Have no idea when I'll be able to find 6.5 gr or .450 BM. Used to be able to walk in to the local cabelas, not anymore. I've seen weird trends in what's been a available. The common round left on the shelf are .243 & .204, if I only had an upper to feed those.

Same here. My fort is stacked nicely, but I've put a severe clamp on all personal shooting. To the extent that I can, I only burn rounds at work now, and will stick to it until we either improve or....

Ya know, as any product gets scarce the market will fill the void. When anything illegal is desired the boys with the boats fill that void. If the political class wants to make the law abiding citizen shooter into a criminal, well just think about the patriots when the Redcoats closed the harbor of Boston. Our rights are god given, y'aint takin em.

..and people wonder why we can find ammo on the shelves... ...it's not from the panic buying. When you're in your local gun store, do you see guys walking out with case loads of ammo? No, because there isn't case loads of the standard stuff availble to buy. It's because the DHS has priority orders in from what I can tell.

"The Department of Homeland Security is set to purchase a further 21.6 million rounds of ammunition to add to the 1.6 billion bullets it has already obtained over the course of the last 10 months alone.."

My question is why the stockpiling. Is it to buy out the market ahead of a bill that would cause panic ammo buying, thus preventing the average Joe from getting what he wants before he can't, or is it because they think they are going to need to use it. Maybe somebody can me help figure this out.

Former Navy SEAL Brandon Webb, who runs the website SOFREP (the Special Operations Forces Report) told us in an email that everything on the list looks “perfectly normal” to him.

“It’s a training center for DHS so there going to need a lot, I mean a LOT, of ammo,” Webb wrote in an email. “Figure one day a guy will shoot through 500-1000 rounds a piece and it starts to add up.”

This guy must be on the dole. The only people that shoot that much in one training session are tier 1 operators.
For the DHS to buy 1.6billion rounds in 10 month, they must be planning on each of their 200000 employees to go shoot 8000 rounds in their next session or 2. Really?

A more likely reason is that they are preparing for war, war inside America. Who is the enemy? This article has a few ideas on the subject.

I got out of the Corps less than a decade ago were I was an 0341 Infantry where my Specialty was Mortars.

That being said, outside of a SAW range, we had to work to put 500 rounds a piece down range in a day. The only times we put over 250 rounds a piece down range in a day was on deployment or a squad movement range.

There's no way DHS is putting that many rounds down range a day.

A 500rd/day shoot schedule is standard in only very few units within JSOC and SOCOM. It is for maintaining accuracy standards that are critical for units who must be able to deliver overwhelming fire precisely, while near no-shoot/friendly targets in confined spaces.

It is very rare for even an Infantry unit to ever run a round count like that through the weapons, certainly not with pistols.

You usually see these types of shooting course volumes in the private sector, but that is for a weekend, with a few that will run 3-4 days like this. The overall proficiency of the Law Enforcement community in pistol and rifle marksmanship has slowly been raised because of the trickle-down nature of trends from these particular military special operations units, but do we really need the Social Security Administration to be blasting away on a flat-range under a shoot schedule more appropriate for specialized military units?

Does the SSA employ agents with arresting powers? If so, why? These are the questions we really need to be asking, as our budget balloons out of control so bureaucratic desk-drivers can live out their fantasies on the range as uber-commandos. We're paying for this crap, at the end of the day.
