We just had an early Thanksgiving dinner with the family. I can't recommend it enough to study why the Pilgrims left England for Holland, then left Holland for the New World. This most important history is not taught in most of our schools.

Please study it and share it with your families if you will. I thank those early pioneers for leaving the persecution and oppression of the state, and spearheading the creation of the greatest Nation on earth.

May you all have a memorable Thanksgiving with your families and friends.

Agreed - Happy Thnxgvng all around. I'll second LR2's invocation of our ancestors' example - let's never forget that John Winthrop (a few years after the "first" Thanksgiving) called us "a city on a hill," a moral light to all nations.

Here in Florida it's 70 degrees. Sunny. Not much humidity. I'm smoking a Turkey (store bought), sipping some home made beer and snacking on some fresh gator tail, and grouper fingers. Fresh corn and home made bread too. Life doesn't get much better than this.

Oh yeah no work lots of food, took my 7 year old daughter shooting yesterday for the first time with with the old trusty marlin .22 and she loved it. Guess I know something else she's getting for Christmas. Happy thanksgiving to all!

hm2- that gator sounds good, grouper too! I ended up cook -smoking 2 ded burds, as I call them- brined for 18 hrs. It's whack here-58° now--then rest of the week=28-38°F. BTW Thanks for the typing upgrade dude. Any chance of pig hunts down your way for our crew--maybe someday?

While it is not a holiday we celebrate here in NZ I want to wish all of you a "happy thanksgiving". Washingtons words can bring a lump to the throat when the sincerety and humility of the meaning are contemplated.

His words have that effect on me every time, as I think about the odds the Continental Revolutionary Army faced against the Imperial Hordes from England, as well as not being supported by at least 50% of the population amongst the 13 Colonies-people who wished the Revolutionaries would just stop rocking the boat and continue to take the abuses of King George's apparatus of oppression.

Benjamin Franklin's own son betrayed him and his countrymen back in the Colonies by siding with the British, after tasting of their luxuries and opulence as his father appealed to the government in London for grievances from the Colonists in the New World.

I love reading Benjamin Franklin's autobiography. If you haven't, trust me and go read it. It is truly eye-opening and inspirational, giving you a first-hand account of the perspective of one of the most influential men who lived in the 1700's-1800's.

I just wanted to share a recipe with the rest of the horde for cranberry sauce that is most excellent:

1 12 ounce bag of frozen cranberries
1 cup of orange juice
1 cup of brown or white sugar
Dash of cinnamon
Dash of cloves***

Mix the sugar and orange juice in a medium sauce pan on the stove at a medium setting.

Stir in the cranberries and cook until the cranberries start to pop (about 10 minutes).

Add cinnamon and cloves and mix in after the cranberries have popped. The sauce will thicken as it cools.

Huh. They didn't leave because of persecution and oppression. They were ran out because they were a bunch of obnoxious, self-righteous prudes who couldn't get along with the decent people of Europe.
