Hello,
I finally got a chance to go the the range. Great shooting rifle, but it is not
extracting the empty brass? I had to tug on the charging handle several times
to open the chamber and get the brass out. Any problems with extracting brass
on a 16 inch AA Tactical?
I realize I bought a slightly used rifle with 50 rounds through it.... I have not seen an
AR do this before. I know some times they are tight when new, but this ( I think)
is something else?
I was using Hornady 123 grain ammo. I did take the bolt out and oil it up real good.
This seemed to help a little, but did not fix the problem. Any suggestions? Thanks.

If a rifle fails to extract check the gas tube and gas block alignment. Insufficient gas will cause a round to fail to extract. Inspect the extractor for the grip on the brass. Some extractors have burrs which will mar the brass and hinder the spent case from being kicked out of the chamber. I'd also inspect the bolt, gas rings and bolt carrier. Ensure there is no gas leakage around the carrier key.

Is the charging handle coming back without the brass or is it just hard to get it back? What chamber is it 5.56 or 223? Im with VASCAR2 on checking the gas system as well.

Is your rifle starting to eject the round but it's not clearing the gun before the bolt starts forward/chambers the next round? Mine does this with some loads and I plan to go with a heavier buffer, H3, to slow the cycle down. If you have an adjustable gas block you can tune that as well to see if your problem goes away. I'm guessing the 16" has a carbine length gas system?
If your bolt isn't locking back after the last round your short stroking and not getting enough gas to cycle the bolt fully...look for a leak at the gas block.

What part of Texas are you in?
+1 on insufficient gas based on the information you have given. You didn't mention double feeding so that makes an extractor or ejector problem less likely. Sounds like the bolt carrier is short stroking.
Troubleshoot your gas system starting with the gas block making sure it's aligned properly, tight and sealed. Inspect the gas tube for proper fit into the gas block, look for ruptures and make sure it is aligned properly with the carrier key. Check the carrier key and make sure it's tight. I've had one myself that one of the screw heads was torqued off at the factory and staked in. Nothing looked out of place but I was having the same problems you are describing.

To answer the questions- the charging handle is not coming back. I have to manually tug and pull on it to get it back and open up the chamber.
I bet it is gas related. Txgunner I am west of Bay City TX 25 miles or so. The rifle has a Daniel Defense Omega 12 inch on it. I will see if there is
an adjustment.
Accuracy was killer. I can't wait to figure out the bug and get going. The rifle is chambered in the formidable 6.5 Grendel.

I would venture to say that your problem of "stuck shell-difficult to open bolt" comes up at least once a week on this forum. Most of the time the fix will be the same...going to a heavier buffer. I can personally attest to this. Last year the super smart members here convinced me it would be the answer to my (exact ) problem and my Grendel has worked well ever since I went to an H3.

You might be better served with just an H2 buffer, as H3's are pretty heavy. I use an H2 in my 16" AA Mid-Length Gas Carbine.

Iman Did you try placing 1 cartridge in the mag and seeing if it locks back? If it does then there is a problem with the extractor. Or does the bolt carrier not move at all after fireing? Last week I was out shooting a new upper and found the bolt carrier not operational. Ran compressed air through the gas tube when I got home it was OK. Ran some CA into the gas key and it did not push the bolt out. Took the gas key off found that it was not drilled through. If you dont have gas getting through it won't matter what kind of a buffer you have.

One thing I did notice while looking over the rifle. I took the upper off and dropped a live round into the chamber. It does not seat all the way in?
It is not all the way into the chamber by at least a 1/4 inch or so?? Maybe this is the problem. I inspected the gas block and line, it all looks good.
I very carefully put a live round in the chamber with gun assembled using the bolt. Chambers fine and the charging handle unloaded the round just fine.
If were a gas issue, after I fire a round the charging handle stood still come back easily? I am letting my local gunsmith check it out today. Thanks for

A round should not seat all the way in. If it does your firing pin will not make contact with the primer.
If a spent casing is not ejected and is slammed back into the chamber, it is possible that it will stick and be somewhat difficult to remove. Brass expands when fired. That's why it is necessary to re-size them before the next firing.
